Macquarie Media is gone, replaced by Nine Radio

Nine has confirmed it will drop the name Macquarie Media for its radio division in favour of the call signs for top-rating stations 3AW, 2GB, 4BC and 6PR, while badging their news bulletins under the 9News brand.

Macquarie Media has named respected business journalist Brooke Corte as the new host Money News, replacing Ross Greenwood.

Ross Greenwood, the host of Macquarie Media’s Money News, has announced that he is finishing his radio commitments with Macquarie Media and will not be returning in 2020.
Ross says, “I have just turned 60 and have been working non-stop for the past 40 years. This is a great time for me to stop and have a break from radio and then look at what my next steps are going forward. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time with Macquarie Media, however eventually all things come to an end.”

Greg Byrnes joins Macquarie Media

Greg Byrnes is joining Macquarie Media as Head of Content, effective tomorrow, and will be responsible for all on air content across Nine’s radio division.
Nine’s MD of Radio, Tom Malone, says, Greg has a long and impressive career in media, and in particular radio, starting at 2XL Cooma in 1990.  He joined 2UE in 1993 and spent 17 years there most noticeably as News Director and Program Director.”

Michael Thompson leaves Macquarie Media

Macquarie Media's National Executive Producer, Michael Thompson, will leave the company this Firday.

Michael started with 2GB on Ray Hadley's program before becoming his executive producer, and then 3 years ago moving into the national role overseeing the content across the news talk and sports talk formats.

A mixed year for Nine, up overall but radio is down

Nine Entertainment has released its Annual Report to shareholders that has shown mixed results for the integrated media business.

In FY19, on a Pro Forma basis, the traditional Broadcasting business contributed just over half of Group revenue, down from 84% in FY18, marking a real change in the drivers of Nine for the future, and driven mainly from the merger with Fairfax Media.

The transaction between Nine and Macquarie Media was completed on Friday. And this week Nine are conducting “town halls” with Macquarie employees around the country.

Stephen Beers is shown the door at 3AW

Macquarie Media has shown the door to their Melbourne based Operations Manager, Stephen Beers.
According to TV Blackbox, Beers is departing the station after his role was made redundant this morning.
He had been in charge of 3AW and Macquarie Sports Radio in Melbourne since 2015.
