Will Nine end up owning all of Macquarie Media?

The merger of Nine and Fairfax is due to complete this Friday.

Along with the merger of both companies, Nine will also end up owning Fairfax Media's 54% share of Macquarie Media.

But would Nine like to own it all? Perhaps so.

Nine has responded to media speculation today with a short media statement saying the company has "had discussions" about the remaining 46% of shares in Macquarie Media, most of which are owned by John Singleton.

Macquarie Media launches its first national program

Macquarie Media has launched its first national program, Macquarie Weekly, hosted by Justin Smith.
 
With a focus on news and current affairs, the program is live each Sunday on 2GB, 3AW, 4BC and 6PR and will look at the news of the week through the eyes and ears of the presenters, journalists and listeners of Macquarie Radio.

Longtime 2GB Major shareholder John Singleton has, for an equally long time, lamented that his number one station was not given the share of advertising it deserved because ad buying agencies were populated with young people who preferred FM.
 
AM Radio may not be cutting edge technology but MacRadio’s online presence certainly is - as is its production values.  All that was showcased at MacRadio’s Big Six initiative, launched to a large gathering of agency types at The Star yesterday afternoon. 
 

Macquarie Media:Full Year Results up by 24%

Macquarie Media has released its annual results with growth in Net Profit After Tax of $21.5 million up $4.2 million, or 24% on last year.

As reported last week on radioinfo, Fairfax Media, currently in merger talks with the Nine Network, is a major shareholder with 54% of shares, but Macquarie Media controls the daily operations of the company.

Veteran investment banker Mark Carnegie has spoken with ABC's Dominique Schwartz about the hype surrounding an expected wave of consolidation following the government's media reforms, and Carnegie's recent bid along with advertising guru John Singleton for a full takeover of Macquarie Media.

In June, the pair teamed up to buy Fairfax Media's 54% stake in the belief it was looking to offload Macquarie, however Fairfax said it was not seeking offers.
