Kyle and Jackie apologise: back on air next Tuesday

Kyle and Jackie O will return to air on the 2Day breakfast show next Tuesday 18th August after the completion of an internal review. Kyle, Jackie and 2Day management have today made a public apology for the lie detector incident and have implemented new procedures to ensure it doesn’t happen again.

In a statement released this afternoon, Austereo says:

“Through an internal review, 2DAYFM has identified certain procedures that allowed this segment to go to air. Following this review, 2DAYFM stands behind Kyle and Jackie O.

“The station has implemented new structures and systems in relation to the use of time delay, pre-recording and procedures dealing with interviews, to avoid a repetition of the occurrence on 29 July 2009.

“2DAY FM and Kyle and Jackie O understand the gravity of this matter, sincerely regret the segment and apologise to the participants and audiences who were offended.”

Speaking to radioinfo this evening, Austereo Chairman Peter Harvie was reluctant to say too much more than the agreed statement, but explained that the new structures and systems procedures “relate to the introduction of people in to the program and other issues… The consequences are the new structures and systems.”

Delay and prerecording are part of those new systems, and delay is being installed in the station. Kyle and Jackie O have been off air since August 3.
