The last time a spider and a toilet featured on radio was in 1972 when the late, great John Pearce on 2GB suggested that he could make any song a hit, no matter how bad, with enough airplay.

To prove his point, he put Redback on the Toilet Seat by Slim Newton on high rotation - which was a lot given Pearce hosted a talk show. The song went on to peak at No. 3 on the Go-Set National Top 40.

It goes without saying that if Merrick & Rosso got back together, they'd be in one hell of a good negotiating position.

Radio networks, in particular Southern Cross Austereo (SCA) and the Australian Radio Network (ARN), have been busily lining up their chess pieces for a very serious game of Who Can Win The Survey Across The Board next year.
