On the eve of retirement, the ABC Melbourne’s Jon Faine addressed the Melbourne Press Club yesterday, reminiscing about 30 years of broadcasting.
 
When asked about the current state of the ABC, Jon said, “I do think it’s in safe hands. I thinks the board’s got some questions to answer but the management I think are pretty good these days.

When Jon Faine presents his final morning program for ABC Radio Melbourne it will be broadcast live from the Melbourne Town Hall on Friday 11 October.
 
After 30 years behind the mic, 23 of those as an ABC Mornings host, the final broadcast will be a celebration of Jon's outstanding radio career and will recognise the tremendous contribution he has made to the ABC, to Melbourne radio and to the Victorian community.

The co-host of ABC NEWS Breakfast, Virginia Trioli, will take over from Jon Faine next year as presenter of the Mornings program on ABC Radio Melbourne.
  
Faine, who has been presenting his show for 23 years, announced in January that this would be his last year on air.
 
Trioli is well-known to ABC audiences having co-presented ABC NEWS Breakfast since 2008 as well as being a regular stand-in host on Q&A.
