Radio millionaires in BRW Rich List

Business review Weekly has just released its rich list for 2016.

Among the top media names on the 2016 BRW Rich 200 are:

Kerry Stokes, who comes in 25th, with individual wealth of $1.71 billion. As well as beign the biggest shareholder in Channel 7, Stokes' company, Seven West Media, also owns Spirit Radio Network in West Australia.

Win TV's Bruce Gordon is 54th in the rich list, with a fortune of $990 million. As well as his tv interests, Gordon owns i98 in Wollongong and C91.3 Campbelltown.

Ray Hadley lashes out on air

Not many announcers would be game enough to openly criticise decisions made by senior management on air, but that’s what Ray Hadley did last Thursday morning on 2GB, according to a report in The Australian. (subscription required)

Apparently management of Fairfax Radio has upset the MRN stars Alan Jones and Ray Hadley.

Gina Rinehart dumps her Fairfax shares

A large parcel of shares in Fairfax Media were dumped on the stock exchange below market value.

The 2.3 billion shares, much more than the average daily trading volume of 5 million, were offered in after hours trading and snapped up by a range of institutional investors.

It was later revealed that the seller was a disgruntled Gina Rinehart, who accepted 87 cents per share for her 14.9% holding in the company, below the day's closing price of 96 cents.
