John Burns has told the Australian he was pushed out of the top rating breakfast program on 3AW, and was told to “toe the corporate line” that he was retiring.

Russel Howcroft will join the top-rating 3AW Breakfast program when John Burns retires next month.

To take up the demanding breakfast shift, Howcroft has resigned his position at PwC.

Howcroft, best known for his role as a panellist on the long-running ABC series Gruen, will team up with Ross Stevenson on 3AW Melbourne’s top rating radio show.

Top rating 3AW Breakfast co-host John Burns has been caught drink driving for the second time in 10 years and must face court in March to, “let a judge decide what happens to my licence from here.”

A contrite Burns apologised to his listeners and co-host Ross Stevenson saying he was “embarrassed and ashamed.”

3AW hosts battle it out for charity

3AW hosts Ross Stevenson, John Burns and Tom Elliott will be the ones answering the questions when they compete for the title of quizmaster on Channel Seven’s Million Dollar Minute Battle of the Talkbacks this Sunday.

All prize money won during the show will be donated to the respective hosts’ chosen charities.

Ross Stevenson is raising prize money for The Children's Protection Society. “My entire life has been leading up to this… Million Dollar Minute is like the Olympics, it's taking part that counts,” he said.
