A little community station on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast is facing a bitter Annual General Meeting at the end of this month with an internal dispute and financial mismanagement accusations threatening the stability of the community organisation.

Sunshine FM in Buderim changed its programming, resulting in a number of shows being taken off air. But at least one presenter feels there is more behind the changes than just programming decisions.

A dispute inside Hawkesbury Radio resulted in the expulsion of member John Bryant this week. But that may not be the end of it.

ACMA is conducting an investigation and legal action is threatened.

An ACMA spokesperson has confirmed that a number of complaints were received about the station, but they were all dismissed. There is one more current complaint under investigation:

Members at Hawkesbury Radio have voted tonight to expel the member John Bryant from the station.

As we reported earlier this week, Mr Bryant and his supporters had criticised the station and its board publicly, in what was a long running dispute at the station.

 As Hawkesbury Radio prepares for its special meeting to consider expelling member John Bryant, a former director has told radioinfo that the ACMA has received “a barrage of complaints against Hawkesbury Radio over the last year and a half and yet they have never followed up on the complaints in a way that is satisfactory.”

Sydney community station Hawkesbury Radio has begun the formal process of expelling a member, but it has divided the station and made the process very public.

In an email message, copied widely to local members and political party leaders, a supporter of the member being expelled argues that the process denies natural justice.

Last month, community station Hawkesbury Radio celebrated 15 years calling live local Rugby League.


With the headsets now hung up until next footy season, the commentary team at Hawkesbury Radio can are taking a rest and looking back at a decade and a half of footy broadcast success.

Vale Hawkesbury Radio's Nicole Fitzsimons

Hawkesbury Radio's Rugby League Commentary Team member Nicole Fitzsimons was involved in a fatal motorbike accident last week while holidaying in Thailand.


Nicole joined the ranks of Hawkesbury Radio in 2011, in a junior role, to learn about radio and sports commentary. Nicole, aged just 24, also worked as a PA on a Channel 9 sports show.

During a callout looking for wannabe celebrities, Kyle and Jackie O got a call from Chris Hutchings, a DJ from a community radio station on the Hawkesbury who told them about his radio show.

He won Kyle and Jackie over who told him to call 2Day FM's Program Director, Jamie Angel who then let him have his own one-off shift on the network. Chris took over Chris Page's 9am-12pm shift on Wednesday and was a big hit!

Blues Music Festival on Community Radio

The National Rock and Blues Show, broadcast from Hawkesbury Radio around the country on the community radio network, will go live to air from Goulburn on Sunday the 9th of February as part of the Australian Blues Music Festival.

Hosted by James Glendenning, the program will be broadcast from the Tattersall's Hotel and fans of the National Rock and Blues Show will be able to see Glendenning live in the bar.

The National Rock & Blues Show is Broadcastd each week from the studios of Hawkesbury Radio in Windsor NSW to a network about 120 Australian Community Stations.
