Radio launches streaming app with 250 commercial and non commercial stations

The Australian radio industry has come together to launch RadioApp, a new mobile app that allows consumers to live stream 250 Australian radio stations on the go.
 
It’s not quite Tinder, but you do swipe right or left to find your favourite radio stations in the list of ABC and Commercial stations from around Australia.
 

Grant Blackley tells shareholders 2Day is a 'key area of focus'

Grant Blackley has addressed the Southern Cross Media Group’s AGM after his first full year as Chairman of SCA.
 
He says 2DAY FM in Sydney remains a “key area of focus” with Rove and Sam’s breakfast show “beginning to win back audiences” amid the Group’s improved financial performance, providing shareholders with franked dividends of 6.75 cents per share.
 
Reinvesting in talent within the network has been a “clear priority” within metro radio over the past year.
 

SCA renews AFL radio rights including women's league

SCA has entered into a new six-year agreement with the AFL for the radio broadcast of AFL games and other AFL events on the Triple M Network and affiliated regional stations. 

The new agreement commences on 1 November 2016.

MCM sells its Authentic Entertainment radio and digital businesses to SCA

MCM Entertainment Group Ltd. has concluded a transaction with Southern Cross Austereo Ltd. where SCA acquires its Authentic Entertainment Pty. Ltd. radio production and syndication business and the Vevo premium digital video Australian representation business.

Damon Rielly appointed SCA Brisbane General Manager

Damon Rielly has been appointed General Manager of SCA's Brisbane stations Hit 105 and Triple M, following the departure of Richard Barker on July 15, 2016.

This appointment will see Damon return to SCA, after originally joining the company in 2001 when he quickly worked his way up to become Director of Sales and led both the agency and direct sales teams to ‘Best Station Sales Performance’ awarded by Commercial Radio Australia in 2007.

Regional Broadcasters welcome media reform

Regional broadcasters have welcomed the announcement today by Minister Fifield that the Government will be introducing legislation to reform the media ownership laws to abolish the ‘75% reach rule’, which prevents a broadcaster from reaching more than 75% of the Australian population and the ‘two out of three rule’, which limits ownership to two out of three of a printed newspaper, radio and free to air television licence.

Southern Cross Austereo has released the 2016 Half Year results showing a 25% leap in profits.

"We're delighted that we've been able to accelerate the balance-sheet repair and get to a position where the company is financially sound," Mr Blackley, who joined Southern Cross in June, told Fairfax Media.
