GfK's audience measurement contract renewed for 5 more years #RadioAlive2017

Amongst a range of announcements at the national Radio Alive Conference in Melbourne today, Joan Warner announced a five-year extension of GfK’s radio audience measurement contract.

The contract extension includes a new multi-million-dollar Measurement Innovation Program (MIP) to explore the potential for a hybrid future for radio measurement. 

The MIP is a global first for GfK.

DAB+ survey figures released

For the fourth time since the launch of DAB+ digital radio broadcasts at the end of 2009, audience numbers for all DAB+ only stations have been released one week after the official metropolitan GfK radio ratings. 

 

The DAB+ summary report shows the cumulative audience for digital only stations, which is the total number of different (unique) people who listen to a DAB+ only radio station in that market for at least eight minutes (one quarter-hour), in a defined period.

They were so tantalising close from knocking the rusted on 2GB from its position as Sydney’s overall number one radio station with just 0.01% separating the two but in today’s GfK Survey 4 results, smooth relinquished all gains to own a 9.1 share to 2GB’s 11.3.

NZME and Partners have over two million listeners, according to the latest 2017 GfK independent radio survey.

NZME’s Chief Commercial Officer, Laura Maxwell says that NZME’s radio is ‘on a roll’ with 54,500 new listeners, now reaching 60% of all radio listeners. In addition, iHeartRadio registered users have increased by 33% year on year to over 631,000†.

Radio head reacts to claims survey system is inaccurate

ARN's Duncan Campbell has disputed claims in today's Courier Mail the current diary system used in radio surveys doesn't reflect what listeners hear in the market place.

The Brisbane paper's article suggests, "radio insiders are hoping for a digital overhaul of 'archaic' radio surveys, which still rely on paper diaries to rank radio programs".
