Family Feud on Brisbane radio airwaves

With the return of Jamie Dunn and Ian Calder to Brisbane radio this week, the city has the distinction of having both father and daughter on air at rival stations. Ian Calder’s daughter Katie Clift, who is the drive presenter on Christian community station 96fm, is up against her dad this week as she fills in on breakfast during the holiday season.

Katie Clift, is happy her dad Ian, is back, yet fearful of how good he is and what he may do to the ratings balance in Brisbane. She has grown up with her dad on the radio.

Clift has told radioinfo: “Lord Mayor Jim, one of Brisbane’s most loved on air characters, performed by Ian, for many years on B105 was always the first thing my friends would ask about when they’d come over. Friends would get a little star struck knowing dad did the voice of Jim, and wanted him to do it in front of them.”

In the three years since Jamie and Ian left town, Katie has established her own on air following, taking hold of 96five’s drive show over a year ago. “A lot has changed since dad was on air and people are looking for more and more out of radio every day,” says Clift.

“Dad’s taught me every thing I know when it comes to radio, and listens to me all the time, he often rings me after I talk on the radio and critiques, what I’ve just said. I can now do the same to him!”

In an interesting twist, The 96five new year’s roster had Katie filling in for the current Breakfast show (Liam, Robbie and Ness) this week, on the exact day 4BC launched its new show.

“Poor Mum, she has no idea who’ll she tune to, but I’m hoping for at least half her support.”

The Radio Family Feud is on air in Brisbane until Clift returns to her regular afternoon shift at 96fm.
