Fairfax posts profit

Fairfax Media today has announced full-year financial results posting a new profit of 83.2 million after tax, surpassing estimates.

Chief Executive and Managing Director Greg Hywood said:

“Fairfax has today reported top line growth for continuing businesses for a full year for the first time in eight years. Overall revenue grew 0.3%, a key driver of which was the 45% increase in Domain Group revenue.


Brad McNally gets goodbye KIIS from 96FM

Veteran Content Director Brad McNally has been made redundant from Perth station 96FM.

McNally was the original music director at 96FM in the early 1980’s when his boss, until recently, MRN COO Adam Lang, was still at school and lucky enough to score a week of work experience in the station’s record library.

Fairfax boosts radio revenue

A Fairfax Conference Presentation and Trading Update held this morning saw chief executive Greg Hywood announce a 9% increase in radio revenue for the company.

The result includes the recent merge with Macquarie Radio but excludes the performance of 96FM, which has been sold to ARN.

The figures represent the period between January 1 and April 26.

Overall, group revenue was up just shy of 1%, with a 7% increase in the Domain web portal contributing to the increase.

After reporting a RadioInfo source yesterday maintaining there was no panic among staff at 4BC ahead of a formal process of review today, the shedding of jobs has begun.

It’s understood veteran announcer Ian Skippen has been sacked along with co-host Loretta Ryan, following the merger deal between Fairfax and Macquarie. It’s believed his breakfast slot will be networked from 2GB.

Historic: 2GB and 2UE newsrooms to merge tonight

Tonight at 6pm is the final news bulletin from 2UE's Greenwich studio following the Fairfax Macquarie merger. The 7 o'clock bulletin will come from the newly merged newsroom in Pyrmont, which is a larger newsroom combining staff from both 2UE and 2GB and created to service both stations and affiliates.

Macquarie Radio Network to sell two radio stations

The Australian Communications and Media Authority has accepted enforceable undertakings from Macquarie Radio Network Limited (MRN) to sell radio stations 2CH in Sydney and 4LM in Mt Isa after the merger of Fairfax and MRN was confirmed by the companies last week.

The undertakings arise from the merger of MRN and Fairfax Media Limited’s (Fairfax) radio interests, which took place on 31 March 2015.

ACCC will not oppose Macquarie, Fairfax radio merger

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission will not oppose Macquarie Radio Network's proposed acquisition of the radio assets of Fairfax Media Limited, or Fairfax's proposed acquisition of 54.5% of MRN.

The ACCC conducted market consultation with advertisers, advertising agencies, end-consumers and other radio stations and networks.
