Sydney market radio station social media analysis

So, with stations into the final week of survey 1, how are they doing with social media engagement? We will be looking at the main local surveyed stations in the five surveyed capital cities over the next few days.

Triple M's Fitzy posts on FB in a search for talent

It appears Triple M has some plans for their overnight programming, creating a new show on the network.

Content Director Mike "Fitzy" Fitzpatrick has posted a "call to action" on a closed radio industry Facebook group in a search for talent.

"This seems like a place where the best (and sometimes angriest) radio people congregate," says Fitzy.

"I figure the best place to look for great radio talent currently not on radio, is a group like this."

SBS PopAsia reaches a million likes

A week into their new show being on air in Perth, 96fm asked listeners what they thought of it.

Some liked it.

Others used words such as 'horrendous,' 'rubbish' and 'an absolute joke.'

"Whiney voices grate on me," said one listener in response to the facebook post asking for feedback.

Some wanted the previous announcers back and more music played. Other negative comments included:

Radio continues to be the highest performing industry in Australia on Facebook, a first quarter 2015 Facebook Performance Report from The Online Circle has found.

The report measures the fan-base of a business and its ability to engage with those fans. It ranks businesses within their industry as well as comparing industries against each other.

Topic Data: a potential show prep gold mine

Facebook is about to launch a product called Topic Data, which is likely to be a show prep and marketing gold mine.

Two small drawbacks. It won't be available in Australia yet, and it may be expensive, but time will fix those two little sticking points.

Topic data will show what audiences are saying on Facebook about events, brands, subjects and activities.

Radio strong in Facebook's performance review

The Online Circle has released its Facebook Performance Report of 2014, weighing up the prominence of businesses on the site by the number of fans they have and their ability to engage with their fans.

Radio is the most engaging industry, the report shows, with triple the number of fans engaged per week as news and magazines in second place.

Greater access to news as Facebook bolsters trending service

Facebook is attempting to close the gap on Twitter as a news-oriented social media site with changes to its news and trending sections, giving broadcasters a greater opportunity to distribute news and promos via twitter if they play their cards right.

2014 saw the introduction of the trending bar on the Facebook homepage, allowing people to easily digest what was being talked about worldwide while browsing their news feed.
