Smart Speaker ownership grows by 75%, but is the government listening?

The NPR and Edison Research Spring 2019 Smart Audio Report is showing that the number of Smart Speakers in households across the US is now at 118.5 million as of December last year.
 
Up from 66.7 million in the previous year, that’s an increase of 78% in twelve months with a further 57% of the remaining population (18+) saying they have at least some interest in owning a smart speaker.
 

Radio stays strong, podcast listening and smart speaker use grows : Infinite Dial

Radio has retained its place as the most used audio platform, while awareness and use of podcasts has increased steadily over the past year, and ownership of smart speakers has doubled, according to the findings of the 2019 Infinite Dial Australia Study released today at the Mumbrella Audioland conference in Sydney.

NPR and Edison Research have released their Winter report into smart speaker adoption rates and holiday purchase behaviour in the U.S.

Key findings include: 

43 million Americans own a smart speaker

According to the Smart Audio report, conducted by NPR and Edison Research, smart speaker reach into households has past the early adopter stage and is growing fast.

A new study released today by global firm Edison Research reveals the digital audio, social media, mobile and podcast habits of Australians. 
 
The Australian Infinite Dial Study commissioned by Commercial Radio Australia, Southern Cross Austereo and Triton Digital, provides new insights into what Australians are consuming online. 

Key findings indicate in the new digital era, radio continues to be the key driver of audio consumption in Australia. 

Radio listening strong in cars, podcast listening up: Infinite Dial research

Radio is still the dominant medium for listening to audio in cars, followed by CDs then our own digital music collection, according to the latest Edison/Triton Infinite Dial research.

The next three sources of audio listening in cars are: online radio, satellite radio and podcasts.

Out of the car, podcast listening has increased, especially in the home. About 42 million Americans were estimated to have listened to a podcast in the past week, 15% of the population.

Americans listen to 4 hours and 7 minutes of audio per day, according to the latest Edison Report, measuring Share of Music.

3 hours 16 minutes of that is spent listening to music.
 

79% of listening is to music, with 9% listening to news and another 9% listening to talk personalities. 3% of listening is to sport. Click here to pop out a large image of the chart (right).

Radio is the most popular thing to listen to, according to figures in the UK, the US, and now Australia, where the industry body Commercial Radio Australia has released new figures.

In each country, radio accounts for over 50% of all audio consumed, according to research released this year.
