ABC Radio moves to inform, entertain and educate in the COVID19 crisis

The ABC's Managing Director David Anderson has outlined how the national broadcaster is keeping the nation informed, educated and entertained in response to COVID-19.

“Clearly, the challenge for the ABC is to continue providing the essential broadcast and digital services all Australians expect of us,” he said.

triple j’s Hottest 100 cracks 3 million votes

triple j listeners have once again broken the voting record by placing 3,211,596 votes in the 2019 Hottest 100, beating last year’s vote tally by 16.4%.
 
That’s a lot of young people who are very passionate about what they consider the hottest songs of the year.
 
Here’s who the votes came from, which could very well influence the content of the countdown:

Voting for triple j's Hottest 100 countdown kicks off next week, and will be open until Monday 20th January.
 
On Saturday 25 January triple j will count down the Hottest 100 songs of the year, then on the public holiday, Monday 27 January, they’ll back it up with the songs that just missed out, the Hottest 200.
 

Zan Rowe's triple j tweet stirs debate about the youth broadcaster

Earlier this week former triple j presenter Zan Rowe tweeted about the national youth station's changed lineup, congratulating the new team and commenting on the sense of disenfranchisement that some listeners may have been felling as their favourite presenters were replaced by a younger team.

Chris Winter, one of the founding announcers at the original Double Jay and a driving force, especially in the early days, of triple j, has passed away.

"He had been very ill for the past 6 months, heart failure and I think complications from his life long condition as a type one diabetic," said Peter Wall today. To quote Marius Webb: "I think we all agree he deserves the title “legendary.”
