Norway makes radio history

11th January 2017 is a historic day for the medium of radio.

Norway becomes the first country in the world to move towards fully digital radio transmissions. As a result of this, the national FM network will be switched off. 

The FM networks will be switched off region by region, starting in Nordland 11th January. The event will take place in Bodø and the final switch-off will be done at 11.11 pm CET. 

Government 'takes Community out of Radio' in digital radio funding cut

The CBAA has responded to the Federal Budget saying that it has failed to maintain funding for metropolitan community digital radio services in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide, and has "taken the community out of radio."

Major outage for Sydney digital stations

There was a major outage this afternoon which took many Sydney digital radio services off air in prime time for about an hour.

Various commercial and community radio services are known to have been affected by the failure, which began just after 5pm.

The issue was traced back to Telstra, which had a major equipment failure inside the North Sydney exchange. 

Transmissions from the Artarmon site went to air, but program was appearently not able to reach the transmission site.

When LG’s new smartphone, the Stylus 2, was launched at RadioDays Europe last week it was touted as a game changer for DAB+ - even for radio as a whole.

LG’s will incorporate both an FM and DAB+ tuner. Which means that now, radio, on both it’s unique platforms, is available on the device of the century that has become as ubiquitous as it is versatile.

Jimmy Buckland, the Director of Strategy for the Wireless Group Great Britain, owner of talkSPORT and three new digital stations, talks to Steve Ahern about digital radio in the UK and the company's imminent expansion.

Buckland and his team will launch three new digital radio stations over the next three weeks on the national multiplex that was switched on by the Secretary of State for Culture Media and Sport, John Whittingdale just a few days ago (1 March 2016).

Southern Cross Austereo’s Digital Radio Content Director Jaime Chaux is pretty pleased with the performance of the network’s digital only radio stations in today’s DAB+ ratings figures.
 
While all stations are heard on digital radio, this report gives figures only for stations that are on air through DAB+ transmissions only, but not also broadcasting on AM or FM.
