Metro advertising revenue is up by 40.9 percent on 2020: Deloitte

Advertising revenue for metropolitan commercial radio stations reached $64.190 million in June, reflecting a year-on-year rise of 40.9%, according to data compiled by Deloitte and released by Commercial Radio Australia
 
June quarter revenue totalled $175.431 million, up 53.8% from the corresponding period a year ago.
 
The buoyant quarter lifted the financial year result to $627.776 million, down 2.4% compared to $643.046 million in 2019/20.
 

Metro radio revenue jumps by over $25M YOY in May

Commercial radio advertising revenue for metropolitan stations jumped by 72.6% in the month of May to reach $59.605 million from $34.534 million a year ago, according to data compiled by Deloitte and released by Commercial Radio Australia.
 
The rise reflects a strong rebound for radio from the depths of the COVID-19 slump, as advertisers returned to the market.

Radio advertising revenue for metropolitan markets improved in the March quarter, but is still down by almost 15% for the current financial year according to the latest figures from Deloitte.
 
As Australia continues to keep the pandemic under control, advertising market conditions have continued to improve for commercial radio stations in 2021, with a positive result in the month of March helping metropolitan advertising revenue reach $153.418 million in the March quarter, a 3.76% decline compared to the same period a year ago.
 

Radio revenue improves in December, but still down by 10.4%

The Australian commercial radio industry reported an improvement in metropolitan advertising revenue to $168.525 million in the December quarter, following the re-opening of Victoria and a slight improvement in business conditions.

Vinyl revenue grew by 8% in 2018. Print book markets expanded as newspapers and magazines sales contracted and the audiobook market in the UK alone was worth around US $85 million.

The costs of producing audiobooks and podcasts are enticing too, with the removal of printing costs and reduction in advances and promotion. Indeed, the biggest cost is time.

Advertising revenue for metropolitan commercial radio stations plunged by 10.2 percent to $181.432 million in the September quarter of 2019, from $202.109 million a year ago, according to data compiled by Deloitte and released today by CRA.
 
Ad revenue fell in all capital cities, with the largest market, Melbourne, down 8.68% to $59.371 million and Sydney down 11.44% to $55.043 million compared to the same period a year ago.
 

Ad revenue for radio declines in Sydney and Perth

Advertising revenue for metropolitan commercial radio stations totalled $209.223 million in the June quarter 2019, according to data compiled by Deloitte and released today by Commercial Radio Australia.
 
The figure reflects a 1.7% decline from the same quarter a year ago and follows a decline of 2.6% or over $5 million in the March quarter.
