Crocmedia, ABC and Macquarie set to secure cricket broadcast

Cricket Australia will potentially make an announcement regarding its radio rights deal by the end of the week.

Media reports suggest Crocmedia, ABC and Macquarie are all set to buy broadcast rights for the coming summer.

Earlier this month, Southern Cross Austereo (SCA) announced it would not be seeking to acquire radio media rights for cricket for a third year.

If the deal goes ahead, Crocmedia would become the newest addition to cricket media, in a move which could see Crocmedia and Macquaries broadcast Big Bash matches as a joint-venture; a similar arrangement is currently in place between the networks for some of their AFL and NRL coverage.

Craig Hutchison’s Crocmedia, fronted by former ABC caller Gerard Whateley on SEN in Melbourne, impressed with its broadcast of the South Africa tour.

It is anticipated that the presence of three cricket commentary networks would increase the availability of commentary jobs currently on the open market.
