CRA New Artist winner heads to Nashville

Caitlyn Shadbolt, who won Commercial Radio Australia’s New Artist to Nashville scholarship, heads off to the US this Friday.
 
The award provided Shadbolt with the opportunity to perform at the Country Music Association’s global artist showcase GlobaLive! at the world’s largest country music festival, the CMA Music Festival in Nashville, Tennessee.

She will be performing on June 6.

Copyright Tribunal favours Commercial Radio in streaming case

For several years now, the commercial radio industry with its peak body Commercial Radio Australia (CRA) has been battling the Phonographic Performance Company of Australia (PPCA) over streaming rights.

The PPCA wanted to charge radio a significantly higher fee for playing recorded music streamed on the internet than what stations are currently paying for the same program broadcast on AM/FM or DAB+.

Gleeson named to host Siren Awards on May 12

Tom Gleeson will host this year’s Siren Awards in Melbourne on 12 May.  Currently working alongside Charlie Pickering and Kitty Flanagan on the ABC series, The Weekly, Tom will bring his award winning comedy stand up style to the Sirens stage at the announcement of the best radio ad for 2016.

Finalists in the best radio ad of 2016 were announced today with leading ad agencies, radio stations and production studios battling it out for the national Siren Awards, to be announced in Melbourne next month.  Ads for Aldi, Maltesers, Jeep, Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Sportsbet and Nandos are some of the brands amongst the finalists.

Xtra Research wins tender to provide regional surveys

Xtra Research has been appointed as Commercial Radio Australia’s official provider of regional radio surveys, beginning January 2016.
 
Xtra will undertake radio audience measurement for markets outside of the five capital cities of Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth and three major centres of the Gold Coast, Canberra and Newcastle, which are already covered by the current GfK Audience Measurement Survey contract.

CRA calls tenders for regional radio surveys

Commercial Radio Australia has called for tenders for a single regional radio survey provider from 2016, and is also seeking interest from software providers to create a Gold Standard to take regional radio surveys into the next phase of development.
 
The survey tender relates to markets outside of the five capital cities of Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth and the major regional cites of the Gold Coast, Canberra and Newcastle, which are covered by the current GfK Audience Measurement Survey contract.
 

Radio defies doomsayers as revenue grows

While other forms of traditional media are reported to be struggling to maintain revenue, latest figures released by CRA show that the commercial radio industry recorded 5.06% growth in metropolitan advertising for the financial year ended June 2015.

Revenue for the five major metro markets totalled almost three quarters of a billion dollars according to figures sourced by Deloitte and released today by industry body Commercial Radio Australia.
