CBAA Conference begins in Melbourne

The Community Broadcasting Association's annual conference has begun in Melbourne.

At a sunset function by the Yarra River, community radio broadcasters from all over Australia converged for three days of discussion, training and planning sessions about the community broadcasting sector.

The Future of News in Radio was placed under the spotlight recently at the National Radio Conference in Melbourne.
 
Moderated by ABC Radio Presenter Patricia Karvelas, the panel included 3AW News Director Gail Watson, Head of Strategy and Transformation at ABC Radio Jeremy Millar, Mark Cummins from SBS Radio and Nova Entertainment News Director Michelle Stephenson.

Mark Ritson, Adjunct Professor at Melbourne Business School, was arguably one of the most popular speakers at the 2016 National Radio Conference held in Melbourne. 

He wanted to name his session something different: "How f--ked are you lot? Very f--ked!" as he presented his unique insight into digital media and radio’s place in amongst the new players.

"You can't always understand what people mean on social media... you can't hear the tone, the meaning... so social media is not always the best medium for understanding tone.

But the voice is the mirror of the mind, with radio you do have tone. Radio is voice with emoticons."
