CRA begins consultation on promotion of gambling

The consultation period on the draft provisions relating to the promotion of gambling and betting odds begins today.

The new draft provisions cover the promotion of gambling and betting odds in live sports coverage and will implement a ban on advertising gambling between 5.00am and 8.30pm from 5 minutes before to 5 minutes after the live event. 

6PR breaches complaints-handling codes

Radio 6PR Perth Pty Ltd, the licensee of 6PR in Perth, has breached the complaints-handling obligations of the Commercial Radio Codes of Practice and Guidelines 2013 (the code).

The Australian Communications and Media Authority's investigation concerned two complaints by a 6PR listener about a 14 September 2016 broadcast that aired on 6PR Mornings. The complaints were sent via fax to 6PR and later via 6PR's website online complaint form. No response was provided by the licensee.

Commercial Radio Code of Practice review begins

CRA has announced that consultation for the triennial review of the Commercial Radio Code of Practice will commence on 16 April 2016.
 
The Code undergoes an extensive review process every three years and is an important process in ensuring contemporary commercial radio broadcasting reflects current community standards and expectations,” Joan Warner said.
 
“The commercial radio industry is committed to meeting the requirements of the Code of Practice and providing the highest quality programs in line with the Australian listening public’s needs.”
 
The Code regulates commercial radio content in accordance with community standards and specific procedures are included for the handling of listener complaints.

2GB breaches accuracy requirement

The ACMA has found that Harbour Radio Pty Ltd, licensee of 2GB, breached the Commercial Radio Codes of Practice 2013 (the Codes).

The ACMA’s investigation concerned the accuracy of statements made by 2GB presenter, Mr Alan Jones, about the rate of global warming in a report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (the IPCC).
