Aussie radio still king of the road

Radio remains the most popular entertainment choice on the road, with Australian commuters largely overlooking the music streaming options that have been introduced into car dashboards, according to research released today.

Radio accounts for 80% of in-car listening, followed by owned music such as CDs and downloads making up 12% of listening, and three per cent of listening going to the streaming services Apple Music, Pandora and Spotify, the GfK Australian Share of Audio study found.

Commercial radio industry welcomes licence fee cut

Commercial radio broadcasters have welcomed the passing in Parliament yesterday of the 25 percent reduction in licence fees for commercial radio licence holders.
 
Joan Warner, chief executive officer of industry body Commercial Radio Australia, said: “The licence fee reduction is a welcome relief and the industry looks forward to continuing to work with the Communications Minister on further cuts in 2016/2017 as foreshadowed in his budget statement.”   
 

Clemenger BBDO Melbourne wins Rd 3 Sirens

Melbourne agency Clemenger BBDO has won round three of the 2017 Siren Awards, taking out the single category and overall win with the ad “VB Knock-Off Clock” for Victoria Bitter beer.

 It’s the second round win in 2017 for creatives Richard Shaw and Russell Fox who also won round one with the “Dog Breath Campaign” for PEDIGREE® DentaFlex™.
 
The round three winning ad “VB Knock-Off Clock” was created to remind tradies that knock-off time is beer o’clock.

Radio is the most popular thing to listen to, according to figures in the UK, the US, and now Australia, where the industry body Commercial Radio Australia has released new figures.

In each country, radio accounts for over 50% of all audio consumed, according to research released this year.

Hobart radio survey released

Radio ratings have been released for Hobart, providing up-to-date data on who’s listening to radio in the Tasmanian capital.

The most listened to station is 936ABC Hobart, with 20.8%, followed by Hit 100.9 on 18.2%.

7HO was third most listened to station, with 16.3%, followed by Heart 107.3 on 13.9%.
