Caroline Wilson to deliver Andrew Olle lecture

Walkley Award winning journalist, Caroline Wilson, will deliver the 2018 Andrew Olle Media Lecture in November.

Wilson, the chief football writer for The Age for 19 years, and the first woman to cover AFL on a full time basis, says she a little daunted, but honoured to be delivering the lecture. “Andrew was an inspirational pillar of Australian journalism and broadcasting and I so look forward to trying to do justice to his legacy at such an important event, and during what is clearly a pivotal period in media history.”

Her lecture will cover the role of the media in holding institutions to account,  and her thoughts on unwinding male domination in the sports arena.

Wilson presents regularly on 3AW Football, Nine Network’s Footy Classified, is a panellist on ABC’s Offsiders and will follow a long line of distinguished Andrew Olle Media Lecture speakers, including Joseph Kahn, Waleed Aly, Helen McCabe, Kate McClymont, Lisa Wilkinson, Mark Colvin, Laurie Oakes, Ray Martin AM, John Hartigan, John Doyle AM, Lachlan Murdoch, Kerry Stokes AC and Jana Wendt.

ABC Managing Director Michelle Guthrie says “Caroline Wilson is undoubtedly one of the top reporters in Australia and has driven the constant evolution and revolution in media for decades. She’s a perfect choice for the Andrew Olle Media Lecture.”

The lecture is held in honour of one of the ABC’s iconic broadcasters, Andrew Olle and the money raised at the lecture goes directly to the Cure Brain Cancer Neuro-oncology Group at UNSW, which is now a world leader in personalised medicine for this type of cancer.

The Olle Fund for Brain Cancer research was set up following his death from a brain tumour in 1995.

The lecture will be delivered at a black-tie dinner at The Westin Grand Ballroom in Sydney on Thursday 1 November, hosted by ABC Radio Sydney Drive presenter Richard Glover.
