Carmen and Fitzi axed for return of Paul Hogan and Lise Fernandez

96FM’s Carmen and ‘Fitzi’ discovered today their breakfast show would not return in 2018.

Paul Hogan and Lise Fernandez, replacing Carmen Braidwood and Brad ‘Fitzi’ Fitzgerald in the early-morning slot which saw a spate of poor ratings, are already familiar to Perth audiences, as part of the Lise, Paul and Basil Zempilas show which aired on 92.9 in 2011.

The show failed to make a significant dent in Perth, residing at seventh place in the ratings before Fernandez then Hogan both quit the show.

In 2014, Lise (pronounced “lease”) joined Channel 9 Perth as a presenter, and will be continuing work with the television station as she begins back on air with 96FM in 2018.

Paul Hogan began his media career as a comedian and writer and soon moved to a national on-air role on Triple M before working with Lise in Perth. For the past four years he’s been in Hobart co-hosting Breakfast and his show currently holds the #1FM position.

The move to secure the pair is part of a broader strategy by ARN, which poached Hit92.9’s Will and Woody to take on the national drive show.

ARN national content director Duncan Campbell, said: “We plan to build on 96FM’s recent success in transforming its music position to focus on pop rock/modern rock, which has seen the station return to its music roots to deliver “better music and more of it” and this new Breakfast show along with our announcement last week of Will & Woody in Drive marks the next phase of that strategy to reignite the heritage and strength of the 96FM brand in Perth.”
