The Rebel Radio Network stations, Rebel FM and the Breeze have joined forces to bring listeners across their network and Australia a new one hour long ANZAC Day service from 6am.

Over the past four weeks, one of the hot topics on Rebel FM’s open mic program with Ash, Jodie & James on the Rebel Breakfast Show has been the cancellation of ANZAC Day with many Australians and Kiwis disappointed with their inability to gather to commemorate and remember those who have served our country.

Rebel FM is not only paying tribute at 6am, Rob Doorey from the Breeze More Music Breakfast Show has joined Ash, Jodie and James to create a full hour-long service.

This year ANZAC Day services will be available from 6am on air and again at 11am on Saturday 25th of April, 2020 and the program has been made available to other radio stations across the country who may want to contribute to their local ANZAC Day community.

To allow the Ballarat community to mark this special day, 3BA 102.3 & 103.1 Power FM has joined with the Ballarat RSL to broadcast a very special dawn service in 2020.

Representatives from the Ballarat RSL will present the service from 6am at a temporary studio area at 3BA & Power FM and the Ballarat community is invited to tune in or stream the solemn and respectful, Ballarat Dawn Service from 6am.

General Manager of 3BA & Power FM, John Fitzgibbon stressed the importance of the event, saying, “During the current crisis, it’s important that we do whatever we can to stay connected as a community. ANZAC Day is one of those hugely important moments. This means a lot for the team here to be able to mark this day with a local dawn service and we hope that it means as much for the Ballarat community”

The Hit Network has joined the ‘Driveways at Dawn’ initiative and will be providing the audio from the ANZAC Day Commemorative Service, live from the Australian War Memorial in Canberra.

Adelaide Hills community station Hills Radio 88.9FM will be presenting 6 hours of Anzac Radio on Anzac Day from 5.45am

Radio announcer Bill Hodgson, will be presenting six hours of music, interviews and scenarios covering the ANZAC involvement in theatres of conflict from the Boer war to Afghanistan.

Bill has put in extensive research and brought in local authorities from around the Adelaide Hills and  will feature interviews with former Advertiser Editor, Geoffrey Williams, Historian Tony Stimson, ex servicemen Bill Douglass, Tim Richardson from the Mount Barker RSL and chaplain Josh Bouzanquet from 16 Regiment, Royal Australian Artillery, Woodside.

Tamworth’s 88.9fm will also present a special commemoration segment at 6:00am on Anzac Day starting with The Ode at 6:00am, followed by the Last Post, one minute of silence and then Reveille.

This will be followed by The Seekers singing ‘We Are Australian’ and listeners are encouraged to pay tribute to the Anzacs by going to the front lawn, balcony, living room or turning up the car radio to hear the special broadcast and joining in with The Seekers on ‘We Are Australian’.

88.9fm will publish the words to ” We Are Australian” on their Facebook page and station CEO George Frame says, “We can’ t be there in person for a dawn service but  we all still owe it to our defence personnel, past and present, to honour their legacy by showing solidarity while many of us are in isolation.

“This is one way we can express our feelings on this special day and at the same time we can also think about the frontline health workers, nurses, doctors, police and paramedics”.

Bathurst community radio station 2MCE and commercial stations 2BS / B-Rock FM have united to promote an ANZAC Day dawn service ‘letterbox’ commemoration.

2BS is producing and sharing with 2MCE a seven-minute broadcast for the ANZAC Day dawn service and inviting community members to hold a candle while standing at their home letterboxes and listening to the service on their preferred device.

The commemoration broadcast at 6am on 2MCE, 2BS and B-Rock, and streamed online, will include The Last Post, The Ode, Reveille, Bathurst electorate MP Mr Paul Toole’s message, and The Lament.

All station broadcasting on Anzac Day are encouraging Australians and Kiwis to turn on their radio and commemorate ANZAC Day from their driveaway, letterbox, balcony or loungeroom.

Across the ditch, RNZ National is partnering with the RSA and New Zealand Defence Force to broadcast a special Dawn Service on ANZAC Day with coverage starting at 5.50am.

RNZ’s ‘virtual’ Dawn Service will be presented by Shannon HaunuiThompson, and will include The Last Post, and a reading of the Ode of Remembrance in both Teo Reo Māori and English.

A broadcast of the National Anthems of Australia and Aotearoa / New Zealand will be followed by a special address by Hon. Ron Mark, Minister of Defence and Minister for Veterans.

RNZ National’s ANZAC Day programming will also include stories and features on Kim Hill’s Saturday Morning show, and at 11.05am there will be a repeat broadcast of a recent ANZAC Day National Commemoration Service.
