On a day of  firsts for the Australian radio industry, Alan Jones has debuted on 4BC to add his voice to the Queensland state elections.

In fact, Jones has been heard on the station before but this is the first time since the merger of Fairfax and 2GB Macquarie was announced.

Phones run hot on Andrew Moore's final shift

It was Andrew Moore’s final shift on 2GB on Friday morning and he received calls from both Alan Jones and Ben Fordham wishing him well and praising him for his work at the station.

Moore has been with 2GB for 17 years in total as a sports reporter, presenter of Wake Up Australia and the holiday fill in for Jones’ breakfast show.

Alan Jones to be heard on 4BC from next week

Jones rushed back from holidays to cover Queensland elections.

The first indication of how the newly enhanced talent pool brought on by the merger of Fairfax and MRN could be utilsed is the news that 2GB’s Alan Jones will be heard on 4BC Brisbane from next Monday.

Jones will be presenting a special one hour program between 8:00 and 9:00am for two weeks leading up to the Queensland election on January 31.

Jones renews 2GB contract until June 2017

Alan Jones has re-signed with 2GB in a contract that will last until June 2017.

Jones has hosted the Breakfast show since 2002. His program has been Sydney’s highest rating breakfast radio show for 13 years, recording 87 consecutive #1 rankings.

MRN Executive Chairman, Russell Tate, said that MRN's Board and shareholders were delighted at the news.

Phil Hughes passes away: Alan Jones predicted 'today is a critical day'

Alan Jones revealed his friendship with Phil Hughes on his 2GB breakfast show this morning as he explained to listeners that the injury is a lot worse than previously thought.

“Today is a critical day. This is much more serious than anyone imagined. Medical technology is currently breathing for him.”

“As I’m advised the neurology is very very bad or in language that we all understand, the brain is very sick.”

But today was special. Another win for Alan Jones in breakfast, yes, but a special milestone.

100 wins or 12½ years worth at 2GB.

It’s not hard to figure out on which side of the political fence Alan Jones sits. For 25 years he’s been the cheerleader in chief for the Liberals while booing the opposition at every opportunity. Yet, more recently, he’s taken on causes that have been left leaning, to say the least.

Get Up circles the wagons around the ABC on whiff of privatisation

In an email to it’s thousands of members, the left leaning activist group Get Up wrote: 

Get this, 

Today, the (Institute of Public Affairs) IPA released a report purporting to uncover "media bias" in the ABC's reporting on coal seam gas, mining and renewable energy, calling for our popular and iconic public broadcaster to be privatised as soon as possible. 

We actually had a good laugh, until we realised – this is no joke.
