2GB and Alan Jones breach the decency requirements

The ACMA has found that Harbour Radio Pty Ltd, the licensee of radio station 2GB, breached the Commercial Radio Code of Practice in an Alan Jones Breakfast Show segment broadcast on 23 August 2018.

Kyle says "2GB would be a disaster" if Alan left

Drawing a parallel between his own experience when he and co-host Jackie O jumped ship from 2Day to KIIS, Kyle Sandilands warns 2GB management of dire consequences should they let Alan Jones go.

2GB, now owned by the Nine Network, must signal their desire to continue negotiations within days or Jones becomes a free agent and is rumoured to be considering several lucrative offers.

If you close your eyes really tight and listen very carefully, Kyle might just sound like a handy replacement for Alan.

Michael Daley tells Alan Jones that if elected he'll sack him and the SCG Trust Board

Alan Jones and Michael Daley have had a heated discussion on the future of the SCG Trust Board on 2GB this morning with the NSW Opposition Leader saying he intends to “sack the board”.
 
Mr Daley told Jones, “If I’m elected, the board will go, I want a new broom through. I know you’ve been on that board for 30 years … but the board will go, it will be sacked”.
 

Macquarie Media earnings slightly down in first half year results

Macquarie Media has released its half year company results for 2019, with Underlying Net Profit (NPAT) down 6% on last yea

 

Statutory EBITDA, an ‘apples with apples’ comparison requirement from the stock exchange, was down 45% ($6 million), but this includes a range of one-off significant items such as impairment, legal claims and property.

Legal claims, such as the Wagner family defamation payment are expected to impact on the company’s bottom line by over $4 million.

 

Alan Jones appeals gag order in Wagner defamation case

2GB is appealing a gag order placed on the station after Alan Jones was found to have defamed the Wagner Family.
 
In a judgment last September in Brisbane’s Supreme Court, Justice Flanagan granted a request by the Wagners to stipulate that Jones and the Macquarie Radio stations could not repeat statements defaming them.
 
2GB’s lawyers have submitted that the judge erred in granting the injunction.

The merger of Nine and Fairfax is due to complete this Friday.

Along with the merger of both companies, Nine will also end up owning Fairfax Media's 54% share of Macquarie Media.

But would Nine like to own it all? Perhaps so.

Nine has responded to media speculation today with a short media statement saying the company has "had discussions" about the remaining 46% of shares in Macquarie Media, most of which are owned by John Singleton.

A petition with over 230,000 signatures, advertiser targeting, unrelenting criticism from media sources and time to think it over has led Alan Jones to offer an apology for an interview with Opera House CEO, Louise Herron.
 
While saying that he had been “tough” on an issue that he and others thought important, he accepted that "I used some words in these programs about the Everest, and the Opera House, and Louise, which in hindsight I now most regret hearing, having heard the impact they've clearly had on some people,"
