There’s been more job successes in recent weeks for AFTRS Graduate Diploma of Radio alumni with jobs won in both commercial and ABC stations.
2016 Graduate Diploma student Kit Mochan is heading off to Western Australia to take on the role of ABC  rural reporter in Albany.

Russel Howcroft appointed AFTRS Chair

Former advertising and television executive Russel Howcroft is the new chair of the Australian Film Television and Radio School.

Senator Mitch Fifield revealed the appointment at today's ACMA Content Conference in Sydney.

It was in December last year Howcroft resigned from his role as executive general manager at Network Ten Melbourne moving to PwC, and the newly created role of Chief Creative Officer.

Nothing too drastic in the budget outcomes for ABC, SBS, ACMA, NFSA and AFTRS


The ABC will lose almost 50 more jobs in the next financial year, according to documents released in tonight's Federal Budget. Job cuts had already been flagged for the national broadcaster and these are presumably part of the process carried across financial years.

Tziporah Malkah was branded ‘awful’ yesterday after an interview with Triple M’s Grill Team.
Tziporah, formerly Kate Fischer had been eliminated from reality TV show I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here and was doing the obligatory round of interviews with radio stations.

Radio industry course starts soon - places are limited

The AFTRS Radio Content and Program Directors course starts this month and is designed to develop students’ programming, management and leadership skills to a professional standard.

Recent alumnus James Findlay – Producer of Triple J’s Sunday night sex-ed show ‘The Hook Up’, completed the course last year.

For James, this is the culmination of years of related work. 

 “You can always learn more,” he said.

Applications for first bilingual radio scholarship close this Sunday

AFTRS is thrilled to partner with SBS Radio to offer Australia's first bilingual radio scholarship.

If you're fluent in Arabic, Mandarin, Cantonese, Kurdish, Hindi, Korean, Indonesian, Vietnamese, Italian, Greek or Nepalese, you are eligible to apply.

No fees will be payable.

AFTRS and ABC Radio announce new annual scholarship

The Australian Film Television and Radio School and ABC Radio have announced a new scholarship of $14,500 to be awarded each year for the next three years to develop Australian radio talent, with a focus on diversity.

The scholarship has been adapted from an existing, long-standing bequest to AFTRS from the late ABC broadcaster Selwyn Speight, who was the first executive producer of flagship Radio Current Affairs program AM.

SBS Radio partners with AFTRS to create Australia’s first bilingual radio scholarship

SBS Radio has partnered with the Australian Film Television & Radio School, focusing on developing bilingual Australian radio talent through a Graduate Diploma in Radio 2017 scholarship.

An Australian first, the initiative aims to expand and enrich AFTRS’ student community by recognising an outstanding radio student, selected on the basis of merit from eligible students across several language groups.
