Commercial Radio Australia and AFTRS announce recipient of CRA Podcast Scholarship

AFTRS and CRA have announced that Melbourne student Nicola Sitch is the recipient of the CRA Podcast Scholarship for 2020.

Russel Howcroft re-appointed as AFTRS chair and Fremantle CEO Chris Oliver-Taylor joins AFTRS council

AFTRS Council Chair Russel Howcroft has been re-appointed for a second three-year term, commencing July 1.
 
In August he begins a new role co-hosting 3AW’s Breakfast program with Ross Stephenson.
 

AFTRS students launch 2NRS on iHeartRadio

AFTRS Graduate Diploma Radio students today launched 2NRS on iHeart Radio, a commercial pop-up radio station broadcasting the hottest hits from today with a rewind to favourite tracks of the 70s, 80s, 90s and 2000s.
 
2NRS celebrates First Nation, Australian and international artists and will be live from 7am – 6pm daily for the next two weeks, the broadcast can be heard via the website and the iHeart Radio app.
 

Local musicians showcased in online iso-Sunday sessions

With the country in lockdown, the live music scene has been impacted with musicians unable to perform at clubs, pubs and other venues, so Jayce Flaxman, a 2019 AFTRS graduate has produced an online concert series in his hometown.

AFTRS's students Zoom around regional stations

When AFTRS’s Graduate Diploma Radio students weren’t able to visit regional stations this year as part of their course, it was decided instead to bring a little bit of Australia’s vast regional radio scene to them.

Using Zoom plus a whole lot of goodwill from radio practitioners, around the country, many who were once a student themselves at AFTRS, they got a first-hand taste of what it’s like to live and work outside the capital cities.

AFTRS students launch Show Radio Special Edition

For the past 26 years, Show Radio has been the AFTRS official pop-up station for the annual Sydney Royal Easter Show, only this year, due to COVID-19, there is no Show or access to facilities at AFTRS.
 
Notwithstanding, AFTRS will launch ‘Show Radio – Special Edition’  to focus on bringing to life stories from the land, celebrating the importance of rural life and the essential role farmers and primary producers play in putting food on tables and the rich heritage of the Royal Agricultural Society.

Radio Schools take COVID-19 seriously

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, AFTRS is putting in place precautionary measures to ensure the health and safety of our community.

Nell Greenwood appointed new AFTRS CEO

Nell Greenwood has been appointed the new CEO of Australia's national screen arts and broadcast school, AFTRS.

Dr Nell Greenwood is an academic leader, screenwriter and creativity advocate with more than 25 years of experience in screen education and international film and television production.
