In recent years it’s been nothing but good news for radio in terms of revenue.

Almost every quarter, revenue rose, year on year.

But, this year, just a couple of weeks ago on the eve of the annual Radio Alive conference, radio was hit with the ‘rigid rod of reality’ as it was forced to announce a massive revenue slump. The September quarter of 2019 showed revenue in the five metro markets down by 10.2 per cent or around $20 million compared to the same quarter last year.

The rumour mill has been operating overtime about Macquarie CEO Adam Lang's position with the talk network for many months. The surrounding noise has only intensified since the takeover of the company by Nine.

MML Chairman, Russell Tate, has confirmed that Adam Lang will leave Macquarie Media at the end of this week.

Today Russell Tate said “I have today agreed with Adam Lang, Macquarie Media’s CEO, that he will leave the company on October 25^th.

At the Radio Alive conference today, Tim Burrows hosted a panel of CEOs, who tackled a number of hot topics in the radio industry in their ‘fireside chat.’

Tim’s first question was about brave moves that the CEO have made, and whether they worked or not.

Adam Lang: “Every day in talk radio requires bravery… usually things work really well, that friendship of live talk radio. But sometimes we push it too hard. 99% of our broadcast minutes we can be proud of, but there are a few we can’t.”
