ABC Radio has launched a voice-activated news service to reach listeners using the new Google Home device, which has just arrived in Australia.

The voice activated Google Home speaker is a bluetooth device combined with a voice-activated assistant, also known as a Conversational User Interface (CUI).

The speaker is designed to be always on and most likely placed in a key position in the home, such as the kitchen or living room.

An Australian Doctor Who fan has picked up the phone to ABC Radio passionately disagreeing the desicion to cast a woman as the next Time Lord.

Jodie Whittaker will replace Peter Capaldi as the Doctor in the upcoming Doctor Who Christmas special.

But this caller, Norm, is not happy, asking if the 'world has gone mad' and then going on to suggest "the ABC would turn every man into a bloody woman", despite efforts from the announcer to point out the ABC does not in fact produce Dr Who but rather the BBC.

Libby Price is back behind the microphone on Ace Network

Well known rural broadcaster, Libby Price will join the Ace Network as presenter of their rural program, Country Today heard on 3CS, 3YB, 3HA, 3WM and 3SH in September.

Libby has worked as the editor of the Benalla Ensign newspaper in north east Victoria for the past three years but is best known for her 30 years working for the ABC, including more than a decade as presenter of the Victorian Country Hour.

Peter Cundall, considered a National Living Treasure and Tasmanian gardening legend, will have his 90th birthday in April, and to celebrate ABC Radio Hobart is hosting ‘Pete’s Picnic’ at the Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens on Sunday 2 April.

ABC Radio Hobart’s Weekends program will broadcast live across Tasmania from Pete’s Picnic (#PetesPicnic), as Presenter and long-time Gardening Talkback co-host Chris Wisbey, looks back on some of Cundall’s greatest achievements throughout his career.
