Nielsen Digital Content Planning data revealed that people were on the move during the month of December 2020, as Australians spent 21% 1 more time engaging with maps and travel info content online for inspiration and directions when compared to the previous month.
Looking back at December 2020, amidst the challenges of being in lockdown at that time, people still found a way to escape.

ABC's Heywire winners for 2021

ABC Heywire celebrates 35 young regional Australians in its 2021 storytelling competition. 
Since 1998, Heywire has become a powerful platform for rural youth to share their stories and make a difference in their communities. 
This year, hundreds of people entered from across Australia. The winners were chosen for “telling it like it is” about life in their part of the country.

Felicity Urquhart signing off from Saturday Night Country after 10 years

After 500 shows and more than 2,000 hours of programming, Felicity Urquhart has announced she is signing off as host of ABC Radio's national Saturday Night Country program.
She will host her final show on Boxing Day, then will focus on "family, health and getting creative."

Since 2010, the award-winning country music artist has been the voice of Australia's home of country music on ABC radio, after replacing original host John Nutting.

ABC Radio confirms the 2021 lineup with only a few changes

ABC Radio has announced its 2021 presenter line ups, which remain relatively stable for all networks, with no changes for ABC Radio Sydney, ABC Radio Melbourne and ABC Radio Adelaide.
Several ABC radio networks recorded their highest audience reach and share in a decade due largely to the bushfire coverage followed by coverage of the COVID-19 pandemic and the US election.

ABC National stations suffer a 90 minute technical glitch

National ABC radio stations suffered major technical issues for 90 minutes this morning, broadcasting distorted audio.
The issue which affected triple j, Double J, Radio National, ABC Sydney, News Radio and Radio National was finally fixed just before 8am.

Martin Molloy inducted into the NFSA Sounds of Australia

Each year the National Film and Sound Archive of Australia (NFSA) recognises ten sound recordings for their defining impact on Australian culture and history by including them in the Sounds of Australia registry.

This year radio’s Martin/Molloy and ABC Radio recordings of the 1956 Olympic Games have been included.

SBS appoints new Director of Audio and Language Content

SBS have appointed David Hua as Director of Audio and Language Content (ALC), joining SBS in December with more than 20 years’ experience in the media industry.
He has held a number of senior executive roles at the ABC, and has been responsible for diverse portfolios across radio, content, marketing, commercial and digital.

The ABC upgrades emergency services

The ABC has announced upgrades to its emergency services in preparation for this year’s emergency summer season.

The ABC’s Managing Director David Anderson has launched the broadcaster’s new Emergency website which aggregates information from key national and state emergency services.

The website allows users to search for nearby incidents; check on emergency events in other locations around the country; and connects the user with their nearest local ABC Radio station.
