300 ABC staff will move to Sydney's West by 2024

Broken Hill goes Heywire

The ABC’s Heywire regional youth program descends on Broken Hill this week for the first ever Heywire Youth Ideas Lab.
Thirty young people aged 15-17 from the Broken Hill region will take part in a week of storytelling and idea development and have the chance to be heard on the ABC.
Highlights of the week for the young delegates will include:

ABC raises $315,000 for NSW flood victims

There were dishwashers, televisions, fridges and money donated to buy a kitchen sink.  One 94-year-old Bonny Hills resident received a much-needed window for her granny flat allowing her to return to live with her family.
In all, around 840 household items were given in ABC Radio’s NSW Flood Appeal along with $315,000 all of which will go to those affected by the March floods in communities up and down the NSW coast.

ABC and FNMA will combine to promote Indigenous voices and stories

The ABC and First Nations Media Australia have partnered to share knowledge and staff to increase the number of Indigenous voices and stories seen and heard in Australian media.
Over the next 12 months the two organisations collaborate around news gathering; festivals and events; and content co-production to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people working in media and to increase the number and diversity of Indigenous stories.

Claire Gorman moves into a new role at the ABC

Respected media executive Claire Gorman is the new Head International Services at the ABC, an expanded role that reflects the ABC’s commitment to communities in the Indo-Pacific region.
Claire has been acting in the role of Head International Strategy since November, when the previous Head, David Hua left the ABC. This new expanded role will manage both the International Strategy team and the International Development team.

Nielsen Digital Content Planning data revealed that people were on the move during the month of December 2020, as Australians spent 21% 1 more time engaging with maps and travel info content online for inspiration and directions when compared to the previous month.
Looking back at December 2020, amidst the challenges of being in lockdown at that time, people still found a way to escape.

ABC's Heywire winners for 2021

ABC Heywire celebrates 35 young regional Australians in its 2021 storytelling competition. 
Since 1998, Heywire has become a powerful platform for rural youth to share their stories and make a difference in their communities. 
This year, hundreds of people entered from across Australia. The winners were chosen for “telling it like it is” about life in their part of the country.
