The ABC will recognise the achievements of women this International Women's Day (IWD) Wednesday, March 8th, on all platforms.

The theme for this year's IWD is on "Women in the Changing World of Work: Planet 50-50 by 2030". 

The United Nations has marked IWD 2017 with a global call to "bridge the gender pay gap" which is currently 24% globally.

ABC Radio gets round to launching new logo

ABC Radio has launched its new logo as part of the 2017 image rebrand.

The round logo reflects the dropping of the call numbers of each local radio station as part of the network's multiplatform philosophy, outlined in our earlier reports.

The photo right shows ABC Regional Content Manager Cath Hurley supporting her metro colleagues by proudly displaying the new logo on her facebook page.

AFTRS and ABC Radio announce new annual scholarship

The Australian Film Television and Radio School and ABC Radio have announced a new scholarship of $14,500 to be awarded each year for the next three years to develop Australian radio talent, with a focus on diversity.

The scholarship has been adapted from an existing, long-standing bequest to AFTRS from the late ABC broadcaster Selwyn Speight, who was the first executive producer of flagship Radio Current Affairs program AM.

ABC Radio warms up for summer

ABC Radio will launch its summer programming lineup this month with a range of new voices, some festive programming, and a welcome return to some familiar presenters.

“There is a terrific array of new and familiar voices on ABC Radio this summer” said Linda Bracken, ABC Radio’s Head of Content & Digital. “It’s great to introduce new talent from around Australia, and to give more established presenters opportunities in new spaces and timeslots.” 

They're hijacking our name: Radio Adelaide

Radio Adelaide chairman Iain Evans says the ABC is "hijacking" Radio Adelaide's name after the national broadcaster anounced plans to rebrand stations next year.

As part of a national rebranding strategy, ABC's local capital city radio stations will drop the call numbers from their names and highlight their cities. 702ABC Sydney will become ABC Radio Sydney, 774ABC Melbourne will become ABC Radio Melbourne and 891ABC Adelaide will become ABC Radio Adelaide.

Jane Marwick signs off from 720 ABC Perth

720 ABC Perth Drive presenter Jane Marwick has announced she will not return in 2017.

Marwick, who is part-way through a law degree, has decided to pursue other opportunities.

ABC Perth Radio Local Content Manager Sarah Knight said: “I am very sad to lose a presenter of Jane’s quality and passion.  She brings a fresh perspective to all she does. I wish her all the best and hope that she will remain a friend of 720 ABC Perth.”

ABC Local Radio rebranding for 2017

ABC Radio will unveil a new visual and aural identity from January 2017 for its capital city radio stations.

The updated, nationally consistent identity will roll out across broadcast, online and mobile platforms.

ABC Radio’s capital city stations will be renamed according to their location, dropping reference to the frequency from their branding.
