Move over Bach and Beethoven

On ABC Classic FM  you'll hear only the women of classical music for a full 24 hours as part of International Women's Day, next Wednesday.

Eight all-female Classic FM presenters will introduce 146 works written by more than 70 women composers. 50% of those works are Australian-made, with many of the pieces also performed by female musicians.

ABC Classic FM will farewell the iconic Margaret Throsby from the Midday show next month.

Margaret will start a new show on Saturday mornings in what was just one of a number of lineup and presenter changes announced by the ABC for 2017.

She has hosted the Midday program on ABC Classic FM since 1994.

Judith Whelan joins ABC Radio

Sydney Morning Herald editor Judith Whelan, has been appointed ABC Radio's Head of Spoken Content, to oversee its talk networks and programs.

Judith will provide editorial and creative direction to meet the overall strategic goals of ABC Radio and the wider corporation. 

As Head of Spoken Content, Whelan will be responsible for ABC Radio’s flagship programs within the Capital City radio network, Grandstand and the ideas network RN. 

The appointment as Head of Spoken Content completes ABC Radio’s executive restructure.

ABC Classic FM is reducing its Jazz content in 2015 by decommissioning Jazz Up Late and shifting Jazztrack to the digital channel ABC Jazz.

Jazztrack is hosted Mal Stanley and brings you the best jazz from around the world from 5-7pm on Saturday and Sunday.

Emma Ayres successor named for Classic FM

Julian Day will replace Emma Ayres as host of Classic Breakfast in 2015 on ABC Classic FM, beginning 19 January.

Julian has presented and produced programs on ABC Classic FM for over a decade, alongside appearances on BBC Radio 3, Triple J, Local Radio and RN. For many years Julian hosted the network’s new music programs, interviewing many of the world’s leading composers and sound artists including Max Richter, Peter Sculthorpe, Steve Reich and Laurie Anderson.

Speculation over the future of ABC Classic FM continues

ABC Classic FM station manager Richard Buckham has this morning spoken to radioinfo, trying once again to allay fears over the station disappearing from the airwaves. Staff and listeners became concerned in August when announcers were removed from overnight programming and since then, speculation about the station and it's future under Abbott Government budget cuts has continued.

​ABC Classic FM’s new imaging uses presenters’ DNA

ABC Classic FM have partnered with Eardrum, the radio and audio specialist agency, to create musical compositions based on the DNA of the network’s presenters.
Using the presenters’ genetic attributes and musical influences, composer Bruce Heald has created unique personal scores. ABC Classic FM will broadcast these original themes, performed by the Australian Chamber Orchestra in the coming weeks, giving listeners a special glimpse into the lives of their favourite presenters.
