919 SEAFM and Leukaemia Foundation aim to break world record

All it takes is a $10 donation and a brave face to become part of history and raise much-needed funds for the Leukaemia Foundation’s World’s Greatest Shave event.

On Sunday 16th of March, 919 SEA FM and the Leukaemia Foundation will aim to break the Guinness World Record for ‘Most Heads Shaved Simultaneously’ and will do so live from the Mooloolaba Triathlon.

The current Guinness World Record stands at 57 people and was set in Canada, however 919 SEA FM expects a huge wave of community support and feel the Sunshine Coast could claim the title from the Canadians to set a new record.

Aiming to raise both awareness and funding for the Leukaemia Foundation, the station is calling on listeners to show support and get involved with a great cause. The Leukaemia Foundation is Australia’s peak body for funding blood cancer research and providing free services to support people with leukaemia, lymphoma, myeloma and related blood disorders.

Leukaemia Foundation Sunshine Coast Regional Events Coordinator Megan Blears says six Queenslanders a day are diagnosed with a blood cancer or related blood disorder and will have to leave their family home to seek ongoing treatment in Brisbane or Townsville. “Sometimes the treatment process can last many months. This is where the Leukaemia Foundation can step in and offer a comfortable place to stay, counselling and practical support to keep families afloat during this really difficult time.”

Last financial year 3270 nights of accommodation were provided free of charge for patients and families from the Sunshine Coast region. To support the event click here.
