4MBS Radio Summer School

Last summer, 4MBS presented a successful “Summer School” for the first time, which it will expand this year to satisfy various age groups.

Last year’s course featured the Kids Classics Radio Course, a drama course and music appreciation classes. Encouraged by last year’s success, 4MBS is presenting an expanded program this summer. The Kids Classics Radio Course is back, but the station also has a Junior Radio Course for 8 to 12 year olds, and an adult course (over 16 years).

Each Course will be presented by experienced volunteers from the 4MBS team.

Many of the Courses and Classes are linked to the broadcasts to be heard on 4MBS Classic FM during the Summer Season, running from December to January.

The Courses will introduce students to the world of radio, including technical and practical aspects. These are very much “hands on” courses, and those participating will take away with them a sample of their own work on CD. The Course for 12-16 year olds and over 16s will have a particular emphasis on current technology, including broadcasting on the internet and MP3 recording.

The Junior Radio Course will introduce young people to the magic of radio – and music. The Course is hosted by Jessica Palmer. In the music category, there is a special feature: a music and movement workshop based on the Dalcroze technique, giving a chance to experience the understanding of music through movement. The presenter will be Paula Melville-Clark.

The Music Appreciation Classes include presentations from Barry Roberts on “The Romantics”, Hector Berlioz and an overview of music from 17th to 20th Centuries. These are linked to the broadcasts in the 4MBS Summer Season, which include the music of Berlioz and special features on music from each of the Centuries – 17th, 18th, 19th and 20th.
