4IP and the Good Guys will live again on River 949

radioinfo has heard strong rumours that one of Australia’s greatest ever on air line ups may soon be heard (briefly) on Ipswich station River 949.

The occasion is a ‘Back to 4IP Weekend’ which is expected to be part of the Ipswich Centenary Celebrations.

For the benefit of younger readers, 4IP was the little station from Ipswich with the BIG contemporary sound. It took on the Brisbane radio establishment of the ’60s and ’70s and beat them consistently with strong, targeted programming and hot promotions.

Word is that many of the surviving 4IP Good Guys will reassemble in Ipswich from 3pm Friday 22 October and take over River 949 across the weekend of the 23rd and 24th. Their appearance will be embellished with the old 4IP jingles and themes.

In the chair and on the air, along with the current River 949 jocks, will be:

Grant Goldman, Wayne–ee Poo Roberts, David Kidd, Jimmy White, Alan McGirvan, Billy J. Smith, David Greenwood, Gray Clark, Kevin Hillier, Paul J. Turner, Geoff Mullins and Graham Roberts.

Handling reporting duties will be news hounds:

David Jull, Gary Hardgrave, Roy Jamieson, Rod ‘Mr T’ Tiley and Des McWilliam.
