The City of Ballarat has joined forces with 3BA FM 102.3 in an initiative to unite the community on Australia Day.

In an initiative called ‘Hands around the Lake,’ the Ballarat community will be asked to hold hands to form a human chain around Lake Wendouree as a show of friendship and to reflect on what it means to be Australian.

The initiative will be held just prior to the annual 3BA Skyworks Spectacular, at approximately 9pm.

Over 4,000 residents are needed to complete the chain the full 6 kilometres around the lake along the Steve Monaghetti running track.

Ballarat Mayor Cr Judy Verlin said, “This is one way for us to celebrate a community where everyone is welcome, valued and where multiculturalism is embraced.”

Ballarat’s Indian Association and Council’s Multicultural Ambassadors have also organised a Harmony Cricket Match and BBQ on Australia Day.
