Neil Mitchell renews contract with 3AW

Friday 28 November, 2014

Neil Mitchell has renewed his multi-year contract with 3AW to continue as the station’s mornings presenter. Neil Mitchell said:“People ask me why I continue working stupid hours and getting up in the middle of the night to come to work.  It is because I have one of the most satisfying jobs in journalism in this country. It is a privilege to have access to a microphone and it is an honour to work with an audience like ours.”

Tom Elliot interviews another imposter while real rapper laughs along in bed

Tuesday 04 November, 2014
3AW’s Tom Elliot has come under fire again after interviewing a man claiming to be Melbourne rapper Matt Colwell aka “360” over comments he made about the Australian flag on Q&A a few weeks ago.

Yet as the interview progressed, it came apparent that the caller 3AW had on the line was no such person.

After the event went to air, the 360 Facebook page posted a video of the rapper listening to the interview from his bed after only becoming aware of it moments earlier.

Is 2UE on the way back? Adam Lang thinks so

Tuesday 30 September, 2014

At the beginning of the year, critics - and Fairfax had more than most - had written the Radio Network and, indeed, the whole organisation off.

By Survey 2, only the second one conducted by new radio measurement company GfK, 2UE had fallen to a 4.6 share overall. Even that was flattering as it was being propped up by Weekends. Take the weekend out of the equation and the station’s audience share was a whittled down to a paltry 3.6 per cent, Monday - Friday.

Worse still, the Fairfax flagship, Melbourne’s 3AW, was beaten out of it’s accustomed number one spot by ABC774.

Did he say what I thought he said?

Sunday 17 August, 2014
One of readers sent us this tip along with an audio clip of what you might call a blooper.

“I heard this go to air on 3AW’s drive show on Friday afternoon. I almost drove off the road.

“Have a listen to the talkback caller and tell me that Tom, the producers, the call screener and the panel operator have decided not to listen to their own program. I’ve top and tailed from station ID until Tom has finished with the caller,” our reader wrote.

Fifi Vs Tom over Disabled Parking

Friday 25 July, 2014
It's risky when you put your life out there every day to entertain others.

This week Fox FM's Fifi Box told a funny story about how she pretended to be disabled after accidentally parking in a disabled parking space.

She didn't realise it was a disabled space until she returned to her car. It was very early in the morning, there were other disabled spaces and there were very few other cars in shopping centre parking lot.

Bring back Bruce Mansfield to TV News

Friday 04 July, 2014
Bruce Mansfield used to read the news in the mid-late 70’s on Channel 10 Melbourne (Channel 0 as it was back then). He now presents the Nightline evening show on 3AW, with Philip Brady.

Channel 10 is now five decades old and will celebrate its 50th Birthday on Friday 1st August.

3AW has launched a campaign to have Bruce return to the Eyewitness News Desk, for that one night only, to read the bulletin.
