End of an era for 2UE News

As Robert Spicer reported in the last news item of 2UE's 6pm news, "it is the end of an era for 2UE News."

The 2UE and 2GB newsrooms have merged and will now operate from 2GB's Pyrmont studios.

The first 2UE bulletin from those studios was heard at 7pm tonight.

Tonight at 6pm is the final news bulletin from 2UE's Greenwich studio following the Fairfax Macquarie merger. The 7 o'clock bulletin will come from the newly merged newsroom in Pyrmont, which is a larger newsroom combining staff from both 2UE and 2GB and created to service both stations and affiliates.

2UE shares Malcolm Fraser's last interview

2UE has broadcast former Prime Minister Malcolm Fraser’s final interview in February on Justin Smith’s Drive program, before he sadly passed away today.

Justin Smith interviewed Mr Fraser around the time of the federal Liberal leadership crisis and what he perceived were current Prime Minister Tony Abbott’s issues.

During the interview, Mr Fraser called for the creation of a new mainstream political party, saying that the way the Liberal, Labor and Parliament were behaving “opens the door to something new”.

2UE holds public forum before NSW State Election

2UE will host a special live broadcast in Parramatta on Tuesday, February 24th in the lead up to the NSW State Election to give voters the chance to have their say.

Called Your Say, the election forum will be hosted by 2UE Mornings’ presenter Stuart Bocking and will be attended by several NSW Ministers including Transport Minister Gladys Berejiklian, Treasurer Andrew Constance and Education Minister Adrian Piccoli. Shadow Ministers will also take part in the debate.

John Williamson to help celebrate 2UE's 90th birthday on Australia Day

Sydney’s first radio station, 2UE 954 will celebrate its 90th birthday on Australia Day with a live outside broadcast from Queens Square on Macquarie Street, adjacent to Hyde Park in the CBD.

The special event marks 90 years since Australia Day 1925 when the on-switch was flicked at the country’s first commercial radio station: 2UE (originally known as 2EU).

Australia Day is the birthday of 2UE. The station started as 2EU on January 26 1925.

The station will be broadcasting from the Sydney CBD from 5am with John and Garry who’ll be joined at 8:00 by 2UE’s longest serving breakfast presenter Gary O’Callaghan. Stuart Bocking and then Angela Catterns will follow with a number of special guests including John Williamson who’s scheduled to sing Happy Birthday.
