Changes imminent at Talking Lifestyle 2UE

Thursday 01 March, 2018

Our radioinfo inbox has been cluttered all day with emails and messages from 2UE insiders who have been telling us of a series of internal meetings today about impending changes to the Talking Lifestyle format.

We can't confirm anything at this time, but the scuttlebutt is that a change from lifestyle talk to sport talk is likely to be announced any day.

Perhaps as early as tomorrow.

It may have been the biggest talent scouting blunder since The DECCA record company’s Dick Rowe passed up the opportunity to sign The Beatles.

Rowe is believed to have told their manager that "Guitar groups are on their way out, Mr Epstein.”

That was (as legend has it) in 1962.

Of the stations compared, the lowest crossover was between 2UE and WSFM with 21.2% - meaning the two stations have more spots from advertisers that are not airing on the other.

The Future of News in Radio was placed under the spotlight last year at the National Radio Conference in Melbourne.

And while news in the digital age and how different radio formats are approaching it was debated, one thing was agreed on.

News is in our DNA.

ABC Radio's Jeremy Miller was part of the panel who argued, “Getting back to reliable dependable news is a good thing."

How I got into radio at 2UE and why I left: Alan Jones

Sunday 20 November, 2016
With 199 survey wins in 30 years of broadcasting under his belt, Alan Jones tells Chris Smith who helped him along the way and who didn’t.

Alan Jones credits radio star-maker John Brennan with discovering him but not everyone at 2UE shared Brennan’s faith. At first, station management agreed to put him on Mornings with a big name female co-host but Brenno insisted he do it alone or not at all.
