2TM Cookbook raises over $8,000 for the Westpac Chopper

2TM celebrated it’s 85th birthday on the 27th of February 2020 and as part of the celebrations, the station arranged, printed and sold the 2TM Cookbook for the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service.
 
Centrepoint Tamworth donated the funds for the printing costs, which meant that 100% of all sales went directly to the chopper.
 

2TM and 92.9 will honour Australian Country Music in January

2TM and 92.9 in Tamworth will hold a celebration of Australian Country Music in place of what would have been the 49th Tamworth Country Music Festival.
 
2TM has long been associated with the Festival and with the cancellation of the 2021 festival due to COVID, the station decided to continue its celebration of Australian Country Music, by exclusively playing Australian Country Music for the ten days that would have been the Festival.
 

The 85th Anniversary 2TM Cookbook is now available

The 85th Anniversary 2TM Cookbook was launched today in Tamworth with all proceeds going to Westpac Rescue Helicopter.
 
The project came about while searching for information on the stations’ history and uncovered along the journey, was the information that the 2TM Women’s Radio Club had published a Cookery Book in 1947.

Each year since 2002, both 2TM and sister station 92.9FM Tamworth have provided support to the Westpac Rescue Helicopter by way of promotion which helps drive donations to The Rescue Helicopter Ball, Ride for The Chopper, Tamworth Golf Day and the Drovers Run.
 

Thanks to local radio Tamworth will get a virtual Show

Tamworth’s annual show, scheduled to be held in September had to be cancelled, so the team at 2TM and 92.9FM will run the 2020 Tamworth Virtual Show.
 
Annual Agricultural Shows are extremely important events, especially in regional towns, allowing the wider community to connect with each other through sporting events, arts and crafts and socially.
 
They also allow farmers to showcase their stock and see what other farmers have on offer to broaden their own breeding programs.
 

Max Ellis recalls the beginnings of the Tamworth Country Music Festival

When 2TM Tamworth staged the first Country Music Awards as a part of the Country Music Capital promotion in 1973, who knew just how huge the festival would become.
 
Tamworth now welcomes 50,000 plus visits to town every January and this major event has now become Australia’s largest music festival.

Former 2TM General Manager Max Ellis played a fundamental role in the Tamworth Country Music Festival's inception, and he remains very much hands-on when the event comes around each year.
 

2TM launches a new country music countdown

2TM have begun a new weekly program to promote Australian Country Music, the 2TM Australian Country Music Chart.
 
Since its inception in October 2019, the 2TM Australian Country Music Top 20 Tracks chart which is released each Thursday morning has become hugely popular, often circulating to tens of thousands of country music fans via social media in both Australia and overseas.

Troy Cassar-Daly inducted into Tamworth Roll of Renown

At this year's Tamworth Country Music Festival, Troy Cassar-Daly was selected for the industry’s most prestigious award - the Australasian Country Music Roll of Renown.

He is the 50th recipient since the Roll was inaugurated in 1976.
 

Troy’s wife, 4KQ’s Laurel Edwards and children, Clay and Gem (pictured below) were in Tamworth alongside him to accept the award which came as a complete surprise to the family.
 

Steve McClelland’s 30 year radio career

Thirty years ago this month (4th March) Steve McClelland got his first job in radio at 2TM Tamworth. We profile Steve to mark his 30th anniversary in radio.
 
Steve was the inaugural mid-dawn announcer in his home town, working the ‘yawn shift’ as the local paper put it in an article about him back then.

Tamworth's 1287 2TM celebrates 80 years of broadcasting tomorrow, 27th February 2015.

2TM was founded by Director Ernest Higginbotham and Director and Engineer Tom Whitcombe with a humble budget of 10 thousand pounds ($20 thousand dollars).

The station has produced a plethora of talent through the studio doors since its launch in 1935.
