2MFM Corporate Dinner and Awards

Muslim Community Radio 92.1fm held its Annual Corporate Dinner earlier this month, fostering the theme: Access and More. The event took place at the Fonta Di Trevi in Bankstown, the hub of multicultural Sydney.

The dinner hosted over 200 stakeholders who were entertained by a string of memorable highlights unfolding during the night. They included a promotional video clip presentation, speeches from dignitaries, six live culturally diverse performances and the 2MFM inaugural presentation of four prestigious awards.

The theme of the event: Access and More celebrated 2MFM’s openness to its target community and its commitment to engage the Muslim community through its radio service.

2MFM’s video presentation encapsulated the services, campaigns, events and activities of the station that fosters, not just engagement and community participation; but also drives new talent to a higher level.

On community participation, the CBAA’s development and membership manager Amy Moone said:

It was an absolute honour to be invited and a real privilege to be able to attend… When community stations are focused on providing access and participation for the communities of interest, like 2MFM is, you can never go wrong, you will always keep your integrity as a community station and the sector will remain healthy so long as there are stations like 2MFM who are committed to broadcasting and operating with those community participation ideals in mind….”

Moone represented the CBAA at the event. Other representation included: Darulfatwa board member, president of the Islamic Charity Projects Association, Dr. Ghayath Al-Shelh, Hon. Mr. Phillip Ruddock MP representing federal opposition leader Mr. Tony Abbott, Mrs. Tania Muhailuk MP representing NSW Opposition leader Mr. John Robertson, and other state and federal dignitaries, local councillors, stakeholders and sponsors.

The Dinner began with a recitation from the holy Quranic, then the president of the Muslim Community Radio Mohammed Mehio, delivered his speech, asserting the political and economic independence of 2MFM.

He reminded stake holders and community representatives that 2MFM is from the Muslim community, for the Muslim community.

2MFM has become a part of a Muslims everyday life. It made Australia home for tens of thousands who otherwise are culturally and religiously isolated. 2MFM is continuously working with the wider Muslim community to clarify their standing on critical issues on being anti-extremists and anti-immoralists.

“2MFM stands today as it did when it first went on air during Ramadan in 1995; it was the first and only independent Muslim community radio. Seventeen years on and 2MFM is still positioned uniquely in its pilot position with the same devotion and vision but with more support and influence with more members, more volunteers and a growing pool of very promising multicultural talent.

Mehio shared with the guests a very much appreciated message from the Australian prime minister in praise of the Muslim Community Radio, received for the occasion, and a station video.

Several politicians took the stage and in turn praised the efforts and services of the Muslim Community.

The evening kept unfolding with highlight after highlight as chanting groups from various cultural and linguistic backgrounds took the stage and enchanted the audience with live and culturally rich performances. These were talents discovered by 2MFM and their renditions were practiced at the 2MFM studios in the weeks leading to the event.

It soon came time for the long awaited for inaugural 2MFM Awards Presentation, in recognition of the community efforts.

The presentation gave tribute to new talent, 2MFM volunteers, presenters and sponsors. 2MFM Vice President Mona Hwalla and a panel of dignitaries delivered the awards to recipients under four categories: the 2MFM’s Got Talent Quest, Young Achiever Award (presenter), Most Passionate Volunteer, and Most Outstanding Sponsor.

The night concluded with group photos and a resounding rendition from the African chanting group.
