2KY and Sport 927 to merge

2KY, Tabcorp’s Sydney racing radio station, is reported to be in negotiations to merge with Sport 927 in Melbourne.

Employees at 2KY’s Parramatta studios reportedly have been told of the plans to move several co-ordinating positions to Melbourne with February 28 set as the start date for the combining of the two organisations.

However, Peter Caillard, Chief Executive, 2KY has told radioinfo: “2KY has not reached any agreement with Sport 927, however we are looking at ways in which we can work together in the future.”

“Even though the discussions are only at a preliminary stage, there is goodwill from both sides to cooperate with each other.”

Sport 927 is owned by the Victorian racing industry and receives million- dollar payments from Tabcorp to broadcast racing. The combined service would be designed to save money through efficiencies and job losses.

2KY’s Big Sports Breakfast show, hosted by Richard Freedman and Terry Kennedy, looks like remaining in Sydney along with Greg Radley’sdaily racing show, from 9am to noon.
