2GB & 2CH’s see me, hear me appeal

Sydney’s number one rating radio station 2GB and sister station 2CH have called on their hundreds of thousands of listeners this week to give generously in support of the Royal Institute for Deaf and Blind Children (RIDBC), with the appeal cumlinating in extensive on air coverage today, which raised a total of $191,124.

The Macquarie Radio Network’s stable of stars are lending their microphones to raise awareness and much needed funds to provide the services that ensure that children born with hearing or vision impairments have access to the best possible education.

MRN Group Programming Director Ian Holland has told radioinfo:

“At least one Australian child is diagnosed as deaf or with a hearing impairment every day. It is estimated that, each year, about 200 Australian children are born blind or with a vision impairment. We are delighted to be able to commemorate the Royal Institute for Deaf and Blind Children’s 150th anniversary. Our stations will be a hub of new faces, as volunteers from RIDBC man the call centre on site.

“We have all been inspired by the triumphs of the children and their families. Across the day, we will be sharing the stories of these children who are overcoming disability and developing their abilities. We will be asking our listeners to support the work of RIDBC. You can help by calling 1300 581 391 and donating whatever you can.”

Featured segments for the appeal included: Alan Jones speaking to Natalija Lambert, who received the heartbreaking news that her 10 month old daughter had a brain tumour behind her eyes; and Ray Hadley talking to Kathryn Miller, whose son Kristian was diagnosed as profoundly deaf when he was only four weeks old.

The appeal theme, ‘see me, hear me’ are words from the Who’s rock opera Tommy.
