SCA Gold Coast News Director

Friday, July 7, 2017

Southern Cross Austereo is searching for an energetic news leader, to join our Gold Coast radio newsroom.  We want to hire a news-gun with vision, someone who can take initiative, sees digital as important as broadcast, and sets the benchmark for our newsteam on many levels.

As News Director, your primary responsibility will be setting a strong example in editorial decision-making, and providing a clear understanding of how news fits within not only our radio programming, but also our digital world.   The buck will stop with you on all levels of producing news content.

This role will ideally suit an experienced journalist with at least 4-5 years’ experience as a senior producer/reporter within a team, the perfect opportunity to step up into news management.   You’ll be able to demonstrate the ability to mentor and develop junior staff in a competitive market, and also be open to initiating change when it comes to improving workflow and output.

You’ll have a level head, and be able to engage personally with your team and audience.   This role requires a slick trouble-shooter, who can respond quickly to breaking news events.  Hitting deadlines is critical, as is accuracy in sourcing, writing and subbing content. You’ll have a genuine care-factor in putting local issues first, and be willing to provide strong direction for our team.  You’ll work closely with the Content Director to ensure our news streams are aligned with our brands and audience.

Experience in RCS News would be ideal, as would Sony Sound Forge editing, but we can help with training on that.

And yes, you will need to be a cut above the rest as an on-air performer, you will be required to be on-air every day, so we want to hear a news-read demo that shows off your style, and ability to write “real-speak” news copy for the Hit/Triple M audience.

This position will pay a competitive salary, depending on experience demonstrated. Applicants must possess a Broadcast Journalism degree or other media equivalent.  A thorough understanding of utilizing social media platforms as well as Umbraco or similar, would be viewed as a positive.
