Our Client

Our client is an Indigenous media organisation servicing 14 remote communities across 250,000km of Western Australia. Programs in their multi-million dollar media centre are in high demand, enabling our client to have sustainably grown over the last 10 years.

The Opportunity

Our client is seeking a Radio Producer to join their company in a remote Western Australian location, for a one year contract with the potential to earn up to $78,000 pa (salary + super + remote location allowance of $4133 + annual airfare of $1275)In addition, you will receive four weeks leave on on top of any statutory leave. You will also be provided a 4WD vehicle for work purposes and furnished accommodation and utilities, both at base and within communities. 

The primary purpose of this position is to coordinate the day-to- day production and programming and work to improve the rate and quality of community member participation, through training, networking and capacity building.

Reporting directly to General Manager some of your responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring 24/7 program schedule is maintained
  • At least 25 hours or more of live broadcast is achieved each week;
  • Daily and annual broadcasts targets and community service announcements are met
  • Training is delivered to staff and students of the schools, enabling them to broadcast two items per term
  • Applications are made for relevant funding and grants
  • Identifying and training new presenters
  • Imparting industry knowledge and skills to communities, through workshops and hands-on training
  • Liaising extensively with local community representatives to identify opportunities for new and expanded content or participation

Who You Are

To be successful for this role you will have a valid drivers licence with exceptional manual vehicle skills. It would be advantageous to have skills or a certificate in 4WD-Offroad. You must be physically fit and have exceptional written and oral communication skills. You will have the ability to learn and use Tieline equipment.

You will have experience and/or skills in Broadcasting and Radio Production:

  • Studio equipment set-up/operation 
  • Relevant software (Zetta, Radiologic DJ) 
  • Community broadcasting codes of practice

You will have well-developed Management skills:

  • Strong planning, reporting and organisation
  • Effective problem-solving, conflict resolutionteam building and training 

It would be advantageous to have skills or experience in:

  • Working with Indigenous people & within communities 
  • Understanding of the political, social & economic factors that affect Indigenous people 
  • Qualifications in Training & Assessment 

This role would suit a candidate that is patient, resilient and can communicate effectively in a cross-cultural environment. Knowledge and understanding of political, social and economic factors affecting Aboriginal people is a must, along with the ability to live and work in a remote and alcohol-free community.
