BBC radio host chokes up recalling mum left final letter

Chris Evans broke down on air after he returned to BBC Radio 2 to host his breakfast show following his mother Minnie’s death. She was 92.

The DJ became very emotional as he revealed she had left his family a letter before she died.  “My sister phones me up and she says you’ll never guess what I’ve just found.
She’s left us a letter. She left it with her birth certificate because she knew we would have to go to her birth certificate to register her death.”

Fans who were tuned into the show were in tears at Chris’ shock find. Others praised him for speaking about his mother just a day after she died.

The 52 year old began his breakfast show by thanking fans and the radio team for their support saying: “It’s not the loss that gets you it’s the love following the loss that gets you.”

Chris admitted his mum would have wanted him to return to work less than 24 hours later.

The former Top Gear host acknowledged he sounded quite upbeat but said it’s because she is now at peace. “I am sounding quite chipper today which some of you may be surprised by but I’m just so happy mums at peace because if she is then I am and we are as a family.”
