There is absolutely no truth in the Kyle rumour

The Daily Telegraph’s gossip column seems to have put two and two together and got five.

Our newly revamped ‘Latest from the Net‘ links section clipped the Daily Telegraph story today reporting unsourced rumours that Kyle Sandilands was planning to move to Nova.

But it seemed a little odd to us at radioinfo.

Nova has just claimed the number one FM network spot. Its breakfast and drive teams are rating well. But just in case there was something in it, we asked DMG Group PD Paul Jackson about it. His response:

“There is absolutely no truth to the rumour that the Nova Network is talking to Kyle Sandilands in any capacity.”

Putting two and two together, it might be understandable why the Telegraph might have jumped to its conclusion. It is contract negotiation time at Austereo. Close Kyle colleague Derek Bargwhana did leave unexpectedly recently, as we reported at the time.

But here’s another way to look at the equation. It’s contract negotiation time. Kyle may be making an ambit claim of up to $5 million. Sources close to Kyle may be using the Daily Telegraph to help sweeten the negotiations by planting rumours favourable to negotiations.

You do the sums and see which two and two make a more believable four.
