Phelps signed swimming cap to be auctioned by Mix 94.5

Mix 94.5 has secured Olympic gold medal (eight of them in fact) record winner Michael Phelps’ swimming cap and is about to auction it to raise money for Telethon.

During the recent Olympics, Mix 94.5 sent marathon swimmer Shelley Taylor-Smith (yes, the same one the ferry is named after) to Beijing to mix it amongst the world’s athletes, setting her challenges each day through her involvement on the Big Couch with Clairsy, Nat & Shane

.

One of those challenges was to secure something belonging to Michael Phelps and Shelley not only met the challenge, by securing one of his swimming caps, but got Phelps to sign the cap as well.

Now the cap is safely back in Australia and Mix 94.5 have had it framed ready to
auction over the next ten days through e-bay. Mix 94.5’s on air personality Dean
Clairs says “Anyone in the world could end up owning it with the auction being online through e-bay, but all the money will come back here to Perth to help the kids that Telethon supports”.

Shelley Taylor-Smith told Mix 94.5 listeners on air “Being a West Aussie, there is only one place I’d like the money to go to and that’s Telethon. And it’s authentic because he signed it in front of me”. Shelley will be back in Perth for Telethon this year on the weekend of October 4 & 5.

In the meantime, you can find Phelps’ signed swimming cap online at ebay. Just
search for item number 250298495050. The auction concludes Thursday October 2 at 4pm Australian Western Standard Time.
