An ARIA for Tom & Alex

Triple J Breakfast duo Tom Ballard and Alex Dyson have scored themselves an ARIA. They received the famous pointy trophy at the annual Australian Recording Industry Awards held at Star in Sydney last night.

The album, Tom & Alex: The bits we’re least ashamed of – features highlights of the radio show – and took out the ARIA for Best Comedy Release.

It’s a great way to go out for Ballard who recently announced that he is leaving the Triple J show to concentrate on a career in comedy.

At the time of the announcement , in a statement on the ABC website Ballard said, “For the past four years I’ve been paid to wake up with one of my best friends in the whole world, talk s***, wear zentai suits, laugh at my dad, drink instant coffee and play good music. It’s been the sweetest of gigs, but I feel like now’s the right time for me to try new things, focus on my high-brow and searing stand up (i.e. dick jokes) and endeavour to annoy Australia via other mediums”.

Alex Dyson will remain as a part of the Triple J breakfast show. The replacement for Ballard is due to be announced tomorrow, December 3.
