Marto turns the other cheek
Last year Triple M Brisbane’s Marto had his right cheek tattooed with the Gold Coast Suns logo because he said he would if they beat his beloved Brisbane Lions. Now he says, "If Greater Western Sydney beat the Lions, I'll get a tattoo on the other cheek." And they might. And Marto’s wife might kick him in both cheeks if they do.

Encouraging results of online trial for radio surveys
With tenders being called for the radio survey contract later this year, the giant French based international firm Ipsos has made an impression with its online data gathering method showing positive results. CRA CEO, Joan Warner says, “The improved online response rates in the latest trial are positive and highlight how people’s increasing use of technology has meant listeners now appear more willing to record their listening habits online. The trial has provided the industry with valuable data to assess whether online could be used as a supplementary way of collecting data.”

ACMA imposes harsh condition on 2Day. SCA not happy
The Australian Communications and Media Authority has carried out its intention to impose an additional licence condition on 2DAY FM, as it had foreshadowed back in March. The appeal that had been mounted by Southern Cross Austereo against the harshness of the condition has been dismissed.
SCA CEO, Ryhs Holleran, clearly disappointed with the imposition, said in a statement immediately after the ruling was announced, “SCA believes ACMA has not fully taken into consideration the extensive processes and procedures that the business has taken upon itself to implement with regards to comments made by Kyle Sandilands on 22 November 2011."

Kyle turns up on The Price is Right
What is it with jocks and game shows lately? Last week it was Wippa on Eddie McGuire’s Hot Seat. This time it’s Kyle Sandilands on The Price is Right – dressed up as the yodel man complete with lederhosen. Apparently it’s Kyle’s favourite game on the show.
Word is that not to be outdone, Jackie will also be on the show soon in an attempt to win at noughts and crosses.

Be positive about radio's future Warner tells RadioAsia Conference
At last week’s Radio Asia Conference in Jakarta, Commercial Radio Australia CEO Joan Warner tackled the question, ‘with online around, why does radio technology exist any more?’ There are plenty of reasons that radio exists said Warner, urging delegates to be positive about radio’s future. The case study in Australia, where Radio is outperforming most other media in audience and revenue is a good example. In Australia digital radio is succeeding and has achieved a 10% penetration of the population in around 3 years.

Howard Sattler suffers stroke
I have in fact had a STROKE…maybe two of them, Howard Sattler told his 6PR Perth audience before going on two weeks leave to recuperate.
Sattler didn’t know he’d had a stroke until he underwent a series of tests to determine why he was slurring his speech and having such difficulty getting through his daily shift. It got so bad that some listeners even complained to the station, thinking that Sattler was drunk on air.

Click HERE for Nielsen shares, timeslots and demographics.MIX 94.5 get their century and get into the record books with their 100th consecutive survey win in Perth. Last night we put them odds on to reach the unheard of Australian milestone saying, With a streak that started last century, the chance of it being pipped at the post is about as likely as the West Coast Eagles getting beaten by the GWS Giants.
Well, they almost got bowled over. Despite a massive 2.8 drop in share, they held on to the number one spot by just 0.7 from 92.9. And since 92.9 is also owned by SCA, everyone over there is celebrating!

Call me Sensei: Merrick catches an arrow in flight
Don't believe it? Click on Read The Full Story and see the video. Its unlocked.
It went like this. An expert archer was to fire ten arrows past Merrick Watts into a cardboard cut out of his head. Merrick’s task was to try to catch one in his bare hands as it whizzed past and SCA staff cheered on. We’re not sure whether they cheered for Merrick to catch an arrow or for an arrow to miss the cardboard version of his head. Either way, he caught the ninth to rapturous applause.

Sydney revenue continues to slide
Radio revenue for metropolitan markets continues to be what CRA describes as “patchy” While three out of the five top markets recorded growth over the 10 months YTD, Sydney and Perth went backwards, according to figures released today by Commercial Radio Australia. More troubling is that recent figures are worse.

Is Jelli a game changer for radio ads?
Back in 2009, Jelli promised to be a game changer for listener driven music playlists, or in old school language, request shows. Austereo trialed it in November that year as part of its Hot 30 Countdown. It was given its own digital channel as well as a regular slot on the Today Network with national advertiser support. Within six months, the trial was abandoned.

Dictator tells Fitzy and Wippa he wants some Aussies in his government
Nova has wisely put a warning on the uncut version of Fitzy and Wippa’s interview with The Dictator (aka Sacha Baron Cohen). Tuesday’s interview with Baron Cohen’s newest character may have had the Nova lawyers worried, but they presumably decided the uncut version was clearly comedy and would be safe to put on the website with a language and content warning. The interview that went to air was a lot tighter and cleaner for breakfast radio.
