Radio people honoured in Australia Day awards

A range of radio people were awarded honours in this year’s Australia Day honours list. The national secretary of Radio for the Print Handicapped, an Indian language presenter on 3MBS FM, an ABC Radio presenter, a 2WG reporter and a volunteer presenter for Radio Voice of Peace have all received Order of Australia awards this year.
MEDAL (OAM) OF THE ORDER OF AUSTRALIA IN THE GENERAL DIVISION
Dr Lindsay Owen McMILLAN of Hawthorn Victoria received an OAM for service to people with a disability through a range of health organisations and employee assistance programs.
As well as a range of health organization leadership positions, McMillan was General Manager of Vision Australia between 1981 and 1991, and National Secretary of the Australian Council for Radio for Print Handicapped.
Mr Mathiaparanam RAVICHANDHIRA of Glen Waverley Victoria received an OAM for service to the arts, particularly through the Academy of Indian Music and Cultural Studies Australia.
He was founder and artistic director of The Academy of Indian Music and Cultural Studies Australia, since 1984, and has performed and lectured at major universities in his career. Ravichandhira was the instigator and producer of programs on Radio Station 3MBS FM, and former presenter of the Indian music program Ragas and Rhythms. He has also performed on All India Radio and TV.
Mr Barry CLUGSTON of Stawell Victoria was awarded an OAM for service to the community of regional Victoria through a range of water industry and environmental organisations. He also presented a wildlife program on ABC radio to the western Victoria audience, for 15 years.
Mr Gregory John CONKEY of Wagga Wagga NSW was recognized for service to the community of Wagga Wagga. He was Co-Founder and Managing Editor of The Riverina Leader, 1979-2004 and a member of the Executive Council of Country Press New South Wales. Conkey’s career included time as a Journalist at RVN Television and 2WG Radio in the 1970s.
MEMBER (AM) IN THE GENERAL DIVISION OF THE ORDER OF AUSTRALIA
Ms Inaam TABBAA of Castle Hill NSW was awarded an AM for service to industrial relations in New South Wales, and to the community, particularly through the Australian Council of Women Affairs. As well as recognition for a range of industrial relations and womens roles, she was also honoured for her work as a volunteer radio announcer for Radio Voice of Peace.
Dr John Patrick KENEALLY of Gladesville NSW was awarded an AM for service to medicine as a clinician and academic, to the specialty of paediatric anaesthesia and pain management, and through advisory roles with public health organisations. John is also a volunteer presenter at 2RRR FM.
